    “The Wedding Singer” Goofs List

    • Incorrectly regarded as goofs: There are numerous ’80s references (including, but not limited to, the Rubik’s Cube, assorted songs, TV shows and fashions) which pre- or post-date 1985 (the year of the movie). While technically anachronistic, it seems reasonable to allow them since the intention is clearly to produce a “period” ’80s feel rather than a strictly accurate historical recreation of a specific year.
    • Continuity: Robbie finishes wrapping the microphone cable twice after the Bar Mitzvah.
    • Continuity: The limousine loses hubcaps while driving, but they soon reappear on the wheels.
    • Continuity: The number of cake pieces on the plate in the bakery changes. When Robby turns to feed the lady, there are two pieces left, but in the next shot, the plate is empty.
    • Continuity: The exterior of the aircraft shows one with only two engines, yet the interior is obviously that of the four-engined 747.
    • Continuity: The wreath in the dumpster where Robbie is laying keeps moving around.
    • Factual errors: Julia’s wedding was supposed to take place on Sunday, August 5th, 1985. But in 1985, August 5th fell on a Monday.
    • Continuity: The story is supposed to take place in summer of 1985, yet there are no leaves on the trees in the shots showing the exterior of Julia’s house.
    • Continuity: The positions of Robbie’s and Julia’s noses during the initial kiss.
    • Incorrectly regarded as goofs: The meatballs that get squished in Robbie’s hands disappear. That’s because they are squished; they are no longer balls. The remains can be seen either falling to the floor or sticking to Rosie’s hands.
    • Continuity: The picture that Robbie’s nephew “decorates” of Robbie and Linda turns round between shots.
    • Continuity: The position of the drunk’s hands around Sammy in the bar.
    • Continuity: During the song “Holiday”, the band-aid on Robbie’s left ring finger disappears.
    • Continuity: Placement of Julia’s hands on the serving dish in the kitchen at beginning of the movie.
    • Anachronisms: There is a LEGO set on the floor that wasn’t made until 1997. The movie takes place in 1985.
    • Continuity: On the double date, at the night club, before Robbie comments on Holly’s bracelets, she puts her left hand above the table, but in the next shot her right hand is up and her left is down.
    • Continuity: When Robbie Hart is singing to Julia on the airplane, the woman behind Robbie wearing the blue dress is standing and sitting inconsistently between shots.
    • Continuity: The best man’s bowtie changes from tucked under his collar to on top of his collar and then to tucked under again between shots.
    • Continuity: The “fat guy” has a wedding ring that appears and disappears in different shots.
    • Factual errors: During the Cindy and Scott wedding, Robbie includes the Fat Guy in people that will never have anything to offer the opposite sex. When the Fat Guy grabs the microphone during “Love Stinks”, you can clearly see a wedding ring on his left hand.
    • Continuity: Robbie’s shirt cuffs change from being under the coat to protruding in different shots when he’s tasting the meatball.
    • Continuity: Under the opening credits wedding while the best man is giving his speech, the microphone keeps shifting from pointing towards him then away from him between shots.
    • Anachronisms: The guitar that the guitarist in the Robby Heart band is playing is a 1990 Gibson Les Paul Custom Plus, the movie is set in 1985
    • Continuity: The dumpster changes colors from black to red while Robbie is in it. An earlier scene shows a blue dumpster.
    • Audio/visual unsynchronized: When Julia is picking out someone to dance with at the bar mitzvah, the boy who pops his jacket and says “Pick me Julia” voice doesn’t fit with his mouth.
    • Errors made by characters (possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): Right before Billy Idol makes a hand gesture to Drew Barrymore’s boyfriend on the plane he looks to the camera at the side to make sure it was time.
    • Factual errors: The DeLorean used in the film is missing the DMC logo on the front grille.
    • Continuity: Glenn’s collar switches from folded to popped several times during the double date scene.
    • Anachronisms: Shots of the exterior of a plane are of a Canadian A320. That aircraft didn’t enter service until 1988.
    • Audio/visual unsynchronized: On the plane, the stewardess hands a man a hot towel. We hear him say “Thank You”, but his mouth doesn’t move.
    • Continuity: When Robbie is talking to Linda, after he wakes up and she is in his t-shirt, his shirt and the blankets are in different spots after alternating shots.
    • Audio/visual unsynchronized: At the very beginning of the song “Love Stinks,” a loud snare drum hit can be heard but the drummer’s hands do not appear to be moving, at least not in the way they should for a loud snare drum hit. In addition, for the remainder of the song, a hi-hat sound can be heard but the drummer’s right hand is hitting the snare drum. Drummers typically use their right hand on the hi-hat.
    • Revealing mistakes: In all of the exterior shots of the airplane flying above the camera, the landing gear is still out.
    • Continuity: When Robbie confronts Julia about marrying Glen for his money, her necklace moves positions between shots.
    • Miscellaneous: In the aircraft cabin scene near the end, a spiral staircase is seen behind Sandler. The only aircraft with an upper deck is a 747, yet the frames of the aircraft in flight are of a narrow bodied aircraft (A320).
    • Continuity: In the scene where Glenn gets stopped by Billy Idol, we can see that Billy’s large fan is behind Glenn. In the next shot when the fan gets up to defend Billy, the fan is now beside Billy rather than still behind Glenn.
    • Revealing mistakes: With the footage of the exterior of the aircraft, the logo for Canadian Airlines can be seen, due to government agreements (referred to as cabotage), a Canadian aircraft would not fly point to point within the USA. Additionally Canadian Airlines did not form into a company until 1987.
    • Continuity: When Robbie goes to confront Glenn about his cheating on Julia, Glenn punches him to the ground. When you see Robbie falling to the grass in the first shot, there’s no blood or sign of injury. In the next shot of Robbie, you see blood trailing down his nose to his lip.
    • Audio/visual unsynchronized: At the Bar Mitzvah, when George is playing the clarinet, his left hand only has his index and ring finger covering the holes. There is no note on the clarinet with that fingering.
    • Factual errors: Robbie tells Linda “Get out of my Van Halen t-shirt before you jinx the band and they break up” That would have been on August 4, 1985 the day before the wedding was supposed to happen. However David Lee Roth left Van Halen on April 1, 1985.
    • Continuity: When Julia and Glenn are on the plane to Vegas, she asks him if they could switch seats (referencing a conversation she had with Robbie) because she “had never seen the bright lights of Vegas before.” However, since they boarded the plane in the morning/early afternoon, it would have been impossible for her to see the lights in the daytime anyway.
