“Runaway Bride” Goofs List
- Crew or equipment visible: When Ike drives into town, the camera and cameraman can be seen reflected on his car.
- Continuity: In the final scene, on Ike’s balcony, he has a paper in his hand, which appears and disappears, randomly.
- Continuity: When Ike comes into Curl Up And Dye for the first time, Maggie calls Peggy over and points to the counter at the article with Ike’s picture (and the devil horns and pitch fork that has been added on). It is originally on taped on the counter, but in the next shot is taped onto the mirror.
- Continuity: When Bob leaves the church, he thrusts the doors open, and they begin to swing shut. But when Maggie follows him out the door, the doors are propped open.
- Continuity: At the baseball game, when Ike first comes up to Maggie and Peggy’s row, behind and to the right of them is a blond-haired woman talking every so often to a black guy. Halfway through the scene, there is a different black guy talking to the same blond-haired woman (although he is wearing the same clothes as the other one).
- Continuity: When Maggie is on the horse for her third wedding, when you see her from the front she has a brown shoe on her left foot. When we see her right foot kicking the horse, she is wearing a white heel.
- Audio/visual unsynchronized: The motorcycle that the couple rides away on is a Suzuki DR 350, a four stroke. In the movie, however, the bike has the distinctive sound of a two stroke engine.
- Factual errors: Actually, weddings are recorded with only one camera, not with four or five (as they do with the movies). Although, they don’t show the party cameramen.
- Continuity: The address on Maggie’s truck reads 106 N. Main as the address for the hardware store. However, when Ike rides into town the address above the door reads 104.
- Revealing mistakes: During one of Maggie’s wedding videos that Ike is watching, we see Maggie running away from the altar with the ring bearer (a young boy) being dragged behind her by holding onto the train of her wedding gown. The video he watches has points of view that would suggest at times the bride is holding the video camera and pointing at the boy being dragged, and it shows another point of view as if the little boy is holding the video camera and videotaping the bride running out of the church.
- Factual errors: Maggie and Ike’s first wedding is on a Sunday. When she runs she jumps onto a Fedex truck. Fedex doesn’t deliver on Sundays.
- Revealing mistakes: During her first wedding with Ike, Maggie leaves the church through an open window in the day care center. On the window sill and spread out onto the grass is a sheet, as if to protect her wedding gown. There is no other reason for it to be there.
- Errors made by characters (possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): During the scene where Ike proposes to Maggie, she refers to being at an “Oriole” game. When people use the actual name of Baltimore’s Major League Baseball team, they always refer to the “Orioles.” (The team’s nicknames are the “O’s” or the “Birds.”)
- Errors in geography: USA Today is based in Arlington, Virginia, not New York City.
- Continuity: In the scene after the hula party, Ike’s lei moves back and forth on his neck. It goes from being perfectly in place to moved back farther several times.
- Continuity: Maggie presents Ike with a gift of the ‘Miles Davis’ album “Kind of Blue.” The closeup shot is that of the original 1950’s album cover. The camera cuts to a shot of the two of them in the doorway, and the album cover has changed to the “Columbia Jazz Masters” reissue cover from much later.
