“RoboCop 2″ Goofs List

  • Errors in geography: The phone number on the sign outside of the River Rouge Sludge Plant (Cain’s hideout) has a 312 area code (Chicago), instead of a 313 area code for Detroit, which is where the story takes place, and the city of Houston can be seen in the background.
  • Continuity: The damage to Robocop’s helmet after being burned by the welder isn’t consistent with the motion of Cain’s mechanical arm.
  • Revealing mistakes: When the Little League baseball team is robbing the electronics store, the shop-owner’s protective leg padding is obviously protruding from under his trouser leg while the kids hit it with a bat.
  • Continuity: SPOILER: Just before Hob jumps in the armoured car and is shot by Cain, his tie goes from being tight to his neck to loosened and back to tight.
  • Revealing mistakes: When the little league team is robbing the electronics store, the team’s coach is shooting at Lewis. During the shoot-out, his baseball cap slips off and you can see the bullet wound on his forehead moments before Lewis is supposed to shoot him there.
  • Continuity: Cain’s brown eyes are green after his brain is removed and placed in the “tube-of-bubbling-liquid”. They turn brown again when displayed on Robocop 2’s video screen.
  • Continuity: When Robocop throws the treacherous cop against the Midnight Resistance arcade game, the machine falls over. A little while later it’s standing up again.
  • Continuity: When Robocop goes to the sludge plant to get Cain, his right hand gets shot off right at his wrist. Later, when they dump his parts in front of the police station, they throw out his right arm which is shown to be separated at the forearm.
  • Continuity: When the bad guys dump RoboCop’s parts off at the police station, they’re driving a white limo. When they arrive later at night, the limo is black.
  • Continuity: Robocop apparently weighs several hundred pounds, as demonstrated when seven officers struggled trying to lift him after he grabbed the high voltage contacts. Yet Robocop’s weight never seems to be a factor when using various vehicles, i.e. police squad cars or the Harley-Davidson he commandeers to catch Cain.
  • Revealing mistakes: When Robocop stops the motorcycle, his hand doesn’t actually grab the front fork.
  • Revealing mistakes: In the scene where Robo is lifted up via a car magnet, you can see the wire that is attaching Peter Weller to the prop “magnet.” It’s on his side, near his hip.
  • Crew or equipment visible: Reflected in Robocop’s helmet when Dr. Faxx is trying to reprogram RoboCop.
  • Revealing mistakes: When Robocop is fighting Cain and is hanging off the building, the brick wall he pushes against noticeably bends under his feet.
  • Crew or equipment visible: During the shootout between Cain’s gang and the Detroit police, one police officer falls down a flight of stairs. Just as he falls down the final stair, a hand comes out to break his fall.
  • Revealing mistakes: When the Mayor’s limo arrives at the abandoned industrial site for the meeting, it is an early 1990s Cadillac. Later, when Robocop passes the limo – which was destroyed by Robocop 2 – it has become an early 1970s Cadillac.
  • Revealing mistakes: During Cain’s rampage, a woman is shot in the leg. A man in a brown sweater rushes to help her and squibs are visible under his clothes before he is shot.
  • Revealing mistakes: During Faxx’s reprogramming of RoboCop, we can see that the plugs in Robo’s head are ends of the same cord, without plugging into any of the machinery.
  • Continuity: When Lewis knocks Robo away from the equipment he’s electrocuting himself on, there isn’t enough clearance for her to actually swing the board. Additionally, the position and length of the board changes significantly between shots.
  • Continuity: An Asian woman in Cain’s limo pleads for her life during the Nuke factory bust at the beginning of the film. When Cain shoots her and throws her from his car, a Caucasian woman in different clothing is seen falling out of the door in a subsequent shot.
  • Revealing mistakes: When RoboCop shoots the man in the head during the baby hostage scene, the fake baby’s arm dangles limply by it’s cloth when it’s almost dropped, revealing it to be a normal, store-bought children’s baby doll.
  • Revealing mistakes: When Robo turns off the stereo near the beginning of the film, you can momentarily see the front of his left thigh armor pop off from the back piece.
  • Continuity: The rifle RoboCop brings into the OCP theater at the end of the film is meant to be the Cobra Assault Cannon from the original film, however, not on;y is it a completely different gun from the first film, but it is also devoid of any of the extraneous attachments and greeblies present in the original version.
  • Miscellaneous: When RoboCop 2 extends his arm to hit RoboCop, it is obvious the extension is a forced perspective trick as the arm becomes at least four times longer to get out of frame. RoboCop is subsequently knocked into a wall that previously did not exist, as Robo was standing in front of an open hall.
  • Continuity: At the film’s finale, it is impossible for Robo to reach the hole on the street to climb out, as there were no mountable structures near the damage.
  • Revealing mistakes: When Robocop zooms up the elevator shaft, he suddenly disappears entirely before he reaches the top.
  • Continuity: When Robocop 2 is introduced to the public, his radiation symbol changes position between shots.
  • Revealing mistakes: When Robocop stops the bike the rider flies off in a rather strange manner. Not flying very far and rotating at the waist as if held by a wire.
  • Revealing mistakes: When Robocop stops the bike you can see it roll back and to the side by about a foot on some kind of support wheels preventing it from falling over.
  • Boom mic visible: In the scene where Robocop is watching his wife’s house the boom mic’s shadow is clearly seen on top of the windshield.
  • Continuity: In the scene where they cut up Robocop, we can see his various parts moving, and again in the scene when they discard them in front of the police station. Normally that wouldn’t happen since every part of him canT have an autonomous energy system.
  • Revealing mistakes: When the surgeons harvest Cain’s brain, it takes very little time and appears only to involve the brain. Later, the jar specimen shows a brain and complete spinal cord which would take much longer and would be much more difficult.
  • Revealing mistakes: When Cain’s Hench woman calls the mayor and he asks to turn down the TV set and they do a close up of the phone she is on you can clearly see there is no cord plugged in to it – and it’s not a cordless phone.
  • Continuity: In one scene, Hob is shooting out a window. Seconds later, he appears in the van, which is making its getaway.
  • Revealing mistakes: None of the Nuke addicts, who shoot Nuke into their neck on a regular basis, have any needle track marks on their necks.
  • Plot holes: The doctors who harvest Cain’s body parts save his brain, his entire spinal cord, and his eyes. In the final model of the RoboCop 2 unit, it appears only the brain and a small section of the spinal cord are used. Also, the actual brain used in the unit appears to be much smaller and shaped differently than the original.
  • Continuity: The contortionist who plays “Born to be wild” on the violin plays continuously without stopping, even though he changes positions several times between camera angles.
