“Predator 2″ Goofs List
- Continuity: After the ship flips over and they are looking at the navigation map, their clothes aren’t wet or the ship either.
- Continuity: When King Willie is killed, there is a large splash (and subsequent smaller splashes indicating footsteps) when the predator jumps into the large puddle. However, in the first shot, there is no visible “shimmer effect” from the predator’s invisibility cloak during the footstep splashes.
- Crew or equipment visible: When Harrigan is chasing the predator after the subway incident, the predator climbs up a building and Harrigan takes a nearby car and you can see the shadow of the camera on the street.
- Revealing mistakes: Cable visible when the Jamaican is pinned to the wall in the penthouse.
- Revealing mistakes: Cable visibly attached to the actor in one shot when the Predator falls down the side of the building.
- Factual errors: Tony Pope’s camera is a VHS camcorder that would never be used by the television industry because of picture quality issues.
- Continuity: In the opening sequence, Harrigan chases one of the Columbian drug dealers up to the roof of a building. The Columbian fires numerous rounds before falling off the building, and shell casings are scattered over the roof. Harrigan climbs up and looks over the side of the building, and the shell casings are all gone. After looking over the roof, the shell casings are back.
- Errors made by characters (possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): When the alien artifact is under the electron microscope the tech says magnification is now at 150,000 times, but the monitor shows 14,250X.
- Audio/visual unsynchronized: When testing the alien spear tip, the female doctor says that they are viewing the image at 150,000 times normal magnification. However, when the camera cuts back to the doctor at the point at which she says “magnification”, her lips aren’t moving.
- Factual errors: The drug lord that falls from the roof of the building, after Harrigan shoots him, lands on a table. Considering his size and the length of the fall, the table would most definitely have been crushed or collapsed.
- Continuity: During the sequence where the special forces team is attempting to trap the alien, several shots were edited to go back and forth between the team and the ops center. When we first see the monitors, a little over two minutes has been recorded. When next we see one of the monitors, it show’s only about one and a half minutes have elapsed.
- Factual errors: When the team is inside the slaughter house, the predator is stalking them with infrared vision. If the infrared detected the heat from the ceiling fans, wouldn’t it also sense the heat from the working flashlights they were using?
- Factual errors: The human body needs to constantly radiate a certain amount of heat or it will overheat and the person would eventually die – therefore, there is no such thing as an “infrared insulating suit”, as it would be necessary to transmit this excess heat to the outside of the suit. This makes it impossible for humans to be invisible to the Predator’s infrared vision.
- Revealing mistakes: As the Jamaicans assault the penthouse, you can see one of the people that is supposed to be dead, move his foot out of the way as the men move by.
- Revealing mistakes: The Predator’s telescoping pike is actually two special effects props, depicting a first and second stage elongation. In the scene where The Predator deploys the pike on the slaughterhouse rooftop, you can see him drop the first stage pike prop out of frame before the camera zooms in on him and he grabs the fully extended pike prop.
- Errors in geography: The movie takes place in Los Angeles, but when the characters get on the subway, suddenly they are on San Francisco’s BART system, not LA’s Metro Transit Authority, which consists of light rail trains. You can see during a shot of the front of the train that it has a distinctive BA, the first two letters of BART standing for Bay Area, instead of the MTA printed on the side of the cars in other shots.
- Crew or equipment visible: When Harrington’s crew first enter the penthouse and Lambert runs into the hanging body there is a crewmen in the shadows along the right side of the screen just visible under the body manipulating something with his hand.
- Continuity: During the subway scene, Lambert draws his weapon to defuse the situation between the gang members and the other passengers. However, as the scene cuts back and forth between Lambert and the other individuals on the subway, the laser sight on his weapon switches between on and off.
- Continuity: In the first movie, we see that the infra-red vision of the predator is lost when its helmet is removed. In Predator 2, the creature retains its infra-red vision even after Harrigan removes the helmet.
- Continuity: When Keyes is telling Harrigan about the events of Predator 1, he said there were two survivors (Dutch and Anna) and they indicated when trapped the predator activated the self-destruct device. Only Dutch would know about the trapping and self destruction, since Anna was on the helicopter.
- Revealing mistakes: When Keyes shows Harrigan video footage of the research team in the jungle after events in Predator, among the clips, keep your eyes peeled for a monitor with an actual clip from Predator. You can clearly see the lone figure of Arnold Schwarzenegger as Dutch overseeing the destruction caused.
- Continuity: In the first scene, when the South American criminals fall back into the building, we see two take a snort of cocaine. When the second man does it, we see cocaine on his upper lip. However, there is noticeably less when we next see him.
- Continuity: King Willie has small, very noticeably discolored teeth. But after the Predator kills him, the teeth in his skull are large and bright white.
- Continuity: After the Predator has his mask removed, he should be seeing in the red tinted vision seen in the first Predator movie.
- Revealing mistakes: SPOILER: When the main predator’s shipmates are fading into sight on the spaceship in one of the last scenes, the bottoms of their legs stop abruptly above the fog on the floor, showing it to be a green screen effect. Some predators who are already there have legs faded out at the bottom due to the fog.
- Revealing mistakes: SPOILER: When the alien ship is lifting off in the final scenes, the tunnel is filled with a fiery blast which Harrigan tries to outrun. The effect depicting the ships lights is off-center to the left of the actual blast. Just before the lighting effect disappears, it is roughly shifted to the left to try to match the blast.
