“The Pink Panther” Goofs List
- Continuity: The passenger door window of Clouseau’s SmartCar is down when the cyclist flies over it, but rolls back up afterward.
- Continuity: When Dreyfus is hiding behind the drapes in Clouseau’s office, both Dreyfus and Clouseau pass the computer on Clouseau’s desk. When Clouseau slams Dreyfus’s head on the desk, he slams it where the computer was.
- Continuity: When Clouseau is trying to park his car, he knocks off the front bumper of a cop car, and the rear bumper of a civilian car. In the shot of him coming up the steps, the cop car is completely different.
- Continuity: SPOILER: When Clouseau says that Xania may keep the Pink Panther, she puts it on her right hand, but in the next long shot, when he is explaining how he knew that she had it, she is still holding it, not wearing it.
- Continuity: SPOILER: When Yuri, the trainer who trains, stabs Gluant in the neck with the dart, his hand is about two inches too low. When Gluant falls the dart is much higher on his neck from where Yuri’s hand landed.
- Continuity: When Clouseau falls through the bathroom floor to the reception desk below, the stuntman carrying out the stunt rolls from the desk about a meter to the right of where Clouseau stands up.
- Continuity: When Clouseau is playing “good cop/bad cop,” he offers cigarettes to the prisoner, which he declines. Clouseau puts them on the desk, where they promptly disappear from the remainder of the scene.
- Boom mic visible: In the beginning of the film, a mike boom is visible above the actor’s head as he sits at his desk.
- Continuity: When Dreyfus is holding the ice to his eye, the angle changes to show Clouseau entering. In this shot Dreyfus clearly removes the ice, but it the next shot he is still holding it to his eye.
- Audio/visual unsynchronized: When the trainer comes around the corner after Clouseau hears the “heel” sound being made by the trainer’s shoes there is a mismatch. The trainer’s shoes were regular athletic sneakers, not cleats which could have made that noise.
- Continuity: The side of the steering wheel in the SmartCar changes at spots during the movie.
- Revealing mistakes: The stunt double who falls through the floor and lands on the hotel registration counter is clearly larger than Steve Martin, and appears to be bald.
- Revealing mistakes: During the opening soccer game scene, the advertisement banners in the stadium appear backwards in several shots.
- Continuity: When Clouseau tries to download the first ring tone (right before the power cuts) he is clearly using the Mac OS X operating system with Safari. The next morning, when Clouseau gets set to download another ring tone, the computer’s operating system is Windows XP with Internet Explorer.
- Continuity: When Clouseau is talking with LaRoque, the table with his coat and the chair behind the desk disappear when he hits the desk to break the vase off his hand.
- Factual errors: Insp. Jacques Closeau and Chief Insp. Dreyfus mention several times that Bizu was shot in the occipital lobe. In the scene when Bizu was shot, he was facing the gunman, so he would have been shot in the forehead. The occipital lobe is in the back of the head, not in the forehead.
- Continuity: While Xania is performing at the Presidential Ball, she has a long feather draped down her back. It disappears mid-song, then re-appears at the end.
- Continuity: When Clouseau and Ponton are at the presidential ball and are seen by the guard, the guard cocks his gun twice.
- Factual errors: When the guard at the Presidential Ball confronts Clouseau and Ponton and asks them to prove that they are dancers, he cocks the hammer on his pistol
The pistol he is holding is a Glock which has an internal hammer, not external.
- Continuity: When Clouseau is talking with LaRoque, the sign warning about getting your hand stuck in a vase disappears and reappears.
- Continuity: The crucial “zoomed section” of the picture taken at the airport is clearly from a different picture than the one we are initially shown, as evidenced e.g. by the positioning of the characters in the background.
- Continuity: When Clouseau is working late and the secretary walks in and asks him if she should stay, the camera moves behind him, and you can see he is wearing a jacket. When the camera turns around, he is wearing only a white shirt.
- Factual errors: The French national team playing football in the game have blue shirts and pants with white socks. A combination of colors they never have in real life.
- Continuity: When Clouseau is at the hotel elevator, the elevator floor lights on the outside are zig-zagged, on the next shot, in close up, the are aligned.
