    “Mr. Deeds” Goofs List

    • Audio/visual unsynchronized: SPOILER: At the end of the movie in the conference room, Emilio Lopez is announced the major stockholder in Blake Media. After Emilio fires Chuck Cedar, you hear Chuck exclaim, “You can’t fire me!” However, Chuck’s lips aren’t moving to the words.
    • Continuity: When Deeds and Pam are by the water fountain, Pam’s mic appears and disappears several times.
    • Continuity: When Deeds is practicing the proposal with his butler, one of the candles in the center of the table hasn’t been lit. During their conversation, the candle becomes lit.
    • Factual errors: Preston Blake is airlifted from the top of Mount Everest – around 29,000 feet – above the maximum altitude possible for most helicopters (the air is too thin). No helicopter was able to reach the top of Mount Everest until 2005.
    • Continuity: When Deeds first appears and talks with Marty about his being “sick”, Marty has a Pepsi cup on a tray which changes into a beer mug during the course of the conversation.
    • Continuity: While Pam/Babe is making her speech at the end, her hair parts from one side to the other and back between shots, and her mic switches hands. The middle shot was apparently flipped to maintain direction of movement during the sequence.
    • Continuity: When Deeds is rescuing the cats, he saves a few before the characters stop in front of a stove and say that there is only one cat left. As the characters are discussing this, there is a cat in plain sight on top of a stove behind them. They do not save this one, however, since the “last cat” they are talking about is the one on fire under a chair, not this one on the stove.
    • Continuity: When Deeds is eating breakfast with his butler the Cocoa Pebbles box moves several times between shots.
    • Continuity: After the funeral scene, as Deeds is eating breakfast, the ice cream on the pie changes between shots.
    • Continuity: When Crazy Eyes is eating the pizza, the Oreo on the slice continually changes position throughout the scene.
    • Continuity: When Deeds is playing tennis, his opponent is about to serve the tennis ball, but in the next shot it down by his side.
    • Crew or equipment visible: Reflected in the large mirror while Deeds is enjoying his breakfast with Emilio.
    • Audio/visual unsynchronized: Deeds says, “What’s this?” when getting out of bed but his mouth doesn’t move.
    • Continuity: The cat that Babe is holding (the one Deeds saved from the burning building) disappears and reappears between shots.
    • Continuity: The wet ginger cat that Deeds rescues becomes a dry grey cat in the arms of the fireman.
    • Continuity: As Deeds drags Pam out of the ice hole she is soaked and dripping water everywhere. In the next shot as they talk beside the hole, she and her clothing are suddenly dry – except for slightly damp hair.
    • Continuity: When Chuck and Cecil exit the helicopter in Mandrake Falls, the rotors are still spinning, but they are completely still in the next shot.
    • Continuity: When they visit Pam’s house in Winchestertonfieldville, Iowa, the red door changes to blue then back to red.
    • Continuity: When Deeds is in the mansion and everyone is shouting (the echo scene), the elevator man is standing behind him, wearing white gloves, which disappear for one shot.
    • Continuity: One of the cats Deeds throws out the window is black with white patches when he throws it, and as it flies through the air, but is a grey and black tabby when it’s caught.
    • Continuity: With pretty much all footage from “Inside Access”, the film is gathered from camera angles not possible with Pam’s hidden camera.
    • Continuity: When Deeds is giving his speech at the end of the movie the microphone on the far right keeps moving from side to side between shots.
    • Continuity: In the credits, George Wallace is listed as playing the “NAACP administrator”, however, his character is actually supposed to be an administrator with the United Negro College Fund.
    • Continuity: The movie takes place over a “few days” while Chuck gets the paperwork signed to get Deeds his money. When Chuck and Cecil pick Deeds up from his hometown to take him to New York, the helicopter lands on bright green turf and folks in town are wearing summer clothes. By the time Deeds leaves New York a short time later, it’s winter. Ponds are iced over and the snow is thick on the ground, as if it has been winter for some time.
    • Audio/visual unsynchronized: When one of the helicopter pilots turns round to face Deeds, his lips move briefly as thought he is talking, but we don’t hear him say anything.
    • Continuity: When Deeds first meets John McEnroe, the label on John McEnroe’s beer is visible. After they hug, the bottle has been turned so the label is no longer visible.
    • Continuity: When Deeds first shows up at his mansion there is no table between the staircases in the “echo room”, but the next day it is there when he slides down the banister, breaks the table and finds the journal.
    • Revealing mistakes: Obvious stunt double when Mr. French falls on the table.
    • Revealing mistakes: When Deeds slides into the table, before he hits it, it has started to break.
    • Factual errors: The Wendy’s shown is not in Connecticut, as mentioned by Marty, but is actually in Carmel, New York, about 10 minutes outside of Connecticut.
    • Errors made by characters (possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): When Deeds is walking down the street with Chuck Cedar and Cecil Anderson, they’re discussing the details of Deed’s inheritance. As Anderson is talking, Cedar buts in saying they just need some time to “dot the T’s and cross the I’s” instead of “cross the T’s and dot the I’s”.
    • Continuity: In the beginning of the movie when Anderson and Chuck are talking to Deeds inside the town’s bar, Anderson’s scarf goes from inside his overcoat to outside his overcoat several times. Later on the street while talking with the older ladies, Chuck’s scarf is straight, then is twisted in matter of seconds.
    • Continuity: When Deeds gives the Oreo, French-fry pizza to Crazy Eyes in jail at the beginning of the movie, the piece of pizza in the first shot is different then the piece of pizza in the second shot.
    • Errors made by characters (possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): When the show that Pam Dawson works for exposes her as an undercover reporter they show two side by side photos one of her as Pam Dawson (the virgin school nurse from Wincheastertonfieldville Iowa) and Babe Bennett (the reporter) the second picture of her with black hair is just a still from earlier in the movie before she died and permed her hair.
    • Continuity: After Deeds hands the Oreo and french fry pizza through the jail window to Crazy Eyes, he is immediately shown holding a slice and biting into it. He did not have enough time to put the pizza down, open the box, and take a slice.
    • Continuity: When Deeds is walking along the ice trying to find Pam/Babe, we see through the ice that he is wearing only one shoe. In the next shot he has two shoes on.
    • Continuity: The hidden camera on Pam’s sweater keeps disappearing/reappearing throughout the scene before the cat rescue. Also, while trying to capture the rescue on film, Pam indicates that it is in the flower, when in fact it was shown in the middle of her collar in earlier shots.
    • Continuity: When Emilio calls Deeds and Pam/Babe to turn around, the back shot of Emilio shows that a microphone is missing, in the next shot, the microphone is there.
