“The Mist” Goofs List
- Continuity: The blood splatter on the windshield goes from being in the middle of the broken glass to being spread out across the windshield and then back again.
- Revealing mistakes: The fallen tree which crashed through the house of David Drayton at the beginning of the film, appears to have had it’s roots cut.
- Revealing mistakes: “The Castle Rock Times”, the newspaper a shopper is looking at in “The Food House” town general store has no datum, issue number or price on it.
- Continuity: SPOILER: After David shoots the people in the car, we see blood stains on the inside of the windows, which we did not see from the outside when the shots were actually fired.
- Continuity: SPOILER: After the tentacle slaps the bag boy, it leaves a noticeably bloody mark on his neck and chin which all but vanishes in subsequent shots of him.
- Continuity: SPOILER: In the scene where Private Jessup is being lynched, we see the wings of the collar of his shirt repeatedly switch from being tucked into his uniform and being stretched out on the outside.
- Continuity: In the scene where Sally gets stung by the wasp-like creatures, the mark from the sting on her neck appears BEFORE the wasp has struck.
- Revealing mistakes: In the scene where you can see the headlines “Electric storm largest on record” on The Castle Rock Times, the entire text underneath it is placeholder text, commonly known in the publishing and design world as “Lorem Ipsum”- a derivative of Latin that is meant to have no meaning. Same for the text underneath the “Celebrating Heritage” blurb above the masthead.
- Continuity: When David is seen repeatedly beating down on one of the winged creatures in the grocery store with a mop, there is one brief camera shot that clearly shows the end of the mop still attached (it had been removed moments earlier). The next shot shows the mop without the end.
- Continuity: After the bloody scene in the storeroom, David’s shirt is wet, but not very soiled. When he steps into the market, there is a large smear of blood on his shirt.
- Factual errors: Throughout the movie, but prominently in one scene where David is standing with some shelves behind him, the shelves are stocked with “Zapp’s potato chips” (specifically the orange ‘Hotter ‘n Hot Jalapeno’ flavor). Zapp’s are not sold in Maine. Zapp’s Potato Chips is a company based out of Gramercy, LA and they market their products largely across the south. Zapp’s ARE sold in Shreveport, LA where the movie was filmed.
- Revealing mistakes: In the final scene of the movie, you can see blue skies and a few clouds in the windshield of the main character’s vehicle.
- Factual errors: Central Maine Power (CMP) trucks have an orange cargo area with a white cab, unlike those shown in the film.
- Factual errors: Maine has counties not parishes. Parishes are the term for counties mostly found in Louisiana.
- Revealing mistakes: Towards the end of the film you see a white state police car upside down, when marked Maine State police cars are blue with a round state police logo on the front doors, and the word STATE TROOPER on the front of the hood and above the front wheel well.
- Revealing mistakes: When the tree “falls” through the window of the house at the beginning of the film, it comes straight in. The tree was clearly pushed into the window, rather than falling over.
- Anachronisms: The US Army hasn’t used Jeeps since the 1980s.
- Anachronisms: The MP Sergeant’s uniform dates from the 1960s.
- Continuity: In the scene where Norm is being dragged by the alien under the stockroom door, initially, there is no visible blood trail behind him. Yet a few scenes later when Ollie goes to stop the generator, there is a thick trail-mark of blood “supposedly” left by Norm on the floor by the ax.
- Continuity: The first trail-mark of blood, supposedly left by Norm after being dragged under the stockroom door, is thick and plenty. Yet in the scene where David is seen looking at the alien retreat back under this door, it’s not same trail of blood – it’s not as thick, and is sparse.
- Continuity: Sally was bitten on the left side of her neck, but the swelling and oozing is all on her right side.
