    “Match Point” Goofs List

    • Continuity: When Chris and Chloe meet Tom and Nola in the bar, Chloe stands up to greet the other couple, leaving a champagne cocktail on the bar which disappears in the next shot.
    • Continuity: When Tom and Nola are playing chess the amount of wine in Nola’s glass changes between shots.
    • Continuity: When Chris is telling his friend about the affair, his right arm is alternately up/down between shots.
    • Crew or equipment visible: SPOILER: When Chris is talking to Nola’s ghost in the kitchen, there’s a close-up of Nola, and in the background you can see a crew member moving around the other room.
    • Continuity: When Chris finds Nola in the Tate Modern and begins the conversation, Nola’s left arm repeatedly changes position between shots.
    • Continuity: When Tom comes to pick up Chris and Chloe, he gets out of the car wearing only a shirt. In the next shot, he is wearing a jacket when he gets back into the car.
    • Continuity: When Chris and Chloe are having dinner with Tom and his new wife Heather, Heather’s hair is in front of her face in one shot and tucked behind her ear a second later despite her not having touched it.
    • Factual errors: When Nola calls Chris on his mobile when Alec and Eleanor Hewett have come to visit, the ring-tone that is heard is Nokia’s default, ‘Grande Valse’, although Chris’s phone is a Motorola.
    • Factual errors: The computers on the detective’s desk display the name ‘London Police’ which does not exist. It should read either Metropolitan Police, City of London Police or British Transport Police – the only forces to operate in the London area.
    • Revealing mistakes: When Nola walks away in the garden and Chris watches her through the windows, it is “heavily raining”, yet a butterfly flies through the scene.
    • Revealing mistakes: When Nola says that she is from Colorado, she does not say it the way a native Coloradan would say it but like someone from the east coast. Instead of saying Colorado, she says Colorahdo.
    • Errors made by characters (possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): When Chris and Mr. Hewett are at Hedley in the gun shack, Tom walks in late and Mr. Hewett accidentally calls him Chris.
    • Continuity: The neighbor’s apartment (first floor) was different from the one she came out while Nola and Chris was kissing, and the one (second or third floor) when Chris went in to kill her.
    • Continuity: Chris teaches Nola how to play table tennis by placing the bat in her right hand, whereas she was apparently left-handed, as seen in her previous shot.
    • Factual errors: When Chris lies to Nola about his overseas holiday she finally calls him on his mobile phone to ask him when he’ll be home from Sardinia, when of course he never left the UK. Sardinia has a different dialing tone to the UK, so a frequent international traveler like Nola should instantly know that Chris was in the UK when his cell started ringing.
    • Revealing mistakes: When Chris shoots both Nola and her neighbor he uses a 12 gage shotgun with a full choke barrel used for hunting pheasant and partridge. When the police are discussing the crime they make two references to the use of a sawn-off shotgun. The shot patterns are very different – a sawn-off shotgun would leave a hole the size of a dinner plate in the victim from the distance fired, whereas a gun used for bird hunting would have a much narrower spread of shot when fired from the same distance; and any investigation would soon be looking for a 12 gauge with a full choke on the barrel.
