“The Lovely Bones” Goofs List

• Errors in geography: When Susan is at her locker and meets Ray – when she opens her locker and then again when Ray slips the poem into her textbook we see the imprint “Fairfax Public Schools.” Later in the movie she identifies her location as Norristown Pennsylvania. Later when George Harvey is looking at a scrapbook there are numerous references to Fairfax Virginia printed in the newspaper articles.
• Factual errors: When George Harvey is looking at the scrapbook he has on Lindsey Salmon the first article refers to Lindsey receiving a soccer award on Saturday the 9th of May. The 9th of May occurred on a Saturday in 1970 and 1981 which is incorrect in the context of the film. (The error is made more obvious when we note that the 9th of May occurred on Saturday in 2009 – the year of the film.)
• Continuity: Lindsey is referred to by Susan as “her little sister” and yet we see a newspaper clipping of her graduation in George Harvey’s scrapbook titled Class of ‘77. Susie, 14 in December 1973, would graduate in 1977 – her little sister would have to be in the same year. While this is possible since the scrapbook mentions her as a honors student and valedictorian, she would have had to skip a grade.
