“John Q” Goofs List
- Factual errors: The son talks to John Q while intubated. While someone is intubated, it is impossible for them to talk.
- Continuity: The amount of, and positioning of, dirt on Mike’s face in the moments following his seizure.
- Factual errors: There are numerous medical and procedural errors in the hospital.
- Continuity: When Mitch and Max are talking and Mitch takes the scalpel, he puts it in his left pocket. Later, when he stabs John with it, he takes it out of his right pocket.
- Crew or equipment visible: When Dr. Turner passes through the doors into the glass corridor where John takes him hostage, you can see the feet of crew members behind the door below the white backdrop.
- Factual errors: When John attempts to kill himself, he pulls the trigger and the hammer falls, but the gun does not go off because he says the safety is on. When a Beretta’s safety is on, the hammer cannot be in the cocked position and the trigger mechanism is disabled, thus the hammer could not have fallen and pulling the trigger would have had no effect anyway.
- Revealing mistakes: In the opening scene, “beautiful woman” sticks her head out of her car window, and her hair does not move.
- Continuity: When Mike and John are eating breakfast in the beginning of the movie, Mike’s toast switches sides on his plate between shots.
- Continuity: After John is attacked by Mitch with a scalpel, he handcuffs him to a heater against the wall. Later we find Mitch is handcuffed to the security guard as John asks the hostages to sign his will.
- Continuity: John Q.’s shirt after the stabbing, as he’s letting the pregnant woman and Latino mom go – the stab hole changes between shots, along with the blood stain.
- Errors in geography: This movie is supposed to take place in the U.S., but watch the scene where John Q. is being driven away at the end. If you look at the intersection ahead, you see a Toronto Transit Commission Wheel Trans bus go by from left to right. This is a bus for people in wheelchairs used in Toronto, Canada.
- Revealing mistakes: When the donor heart is being prepped for surgery, the dead woman’s mouth twitches into a smile briefly.
- Revealing mistakes: When John Q puts the gun against his head and subsequently in his mouth to convince the doctor to operate, he yanks the gun down and back up to cock it, and the sound can be heard. However if the gun is unloaded as it is soon revealed to be, the slide would lock in the back position and stay there, but when John pulls the gun back up, the slide is still forward.
