“The Island” Goofs List

  • Continuity: While Lincoln and Jordan were running through the conditioning room (where it was pouring water) they were both wet and dirty, yet when they ran into the next room, they were perfectly dry and clean.
  • Crew or equipment visible: When Merrick is injecting the microbes into Lincoln’s eye, the cameraman can be seen in the reflection on his glasses.
  • Continuity: When asked to draw the boat he had in his dream the little pyramid moves about the desk of its own accord.
  • Continuity: SPOILER: When the clones are running out of the bunker door at the end of the movie, slightly behind and to the left of Jones Three Echo, Gandu Three Echo can be seen exiting also. This is impossible since Merrick previously injected him with poison which killed him.
  • Revealing mistakes: SPOILER: When the nail gun is used on the bad guy, you can see that the nail gun has an attachment fitting for compressed air. However there is no cord hooked up to the nail gun. Thus, no compressed air, no nails being fired.
  • Continuity: When Tom Lincoln and Lincoln Six-Echo are driving to KNBC the car stops over the stop line at a red light. In the next shot the car is only half way over this stop line. Even more, when the car accelerates, it starts far from stop line.
  • Crew or equipment visible: When Laurent shoots Tom Lincoln, the ground shakes and ripples during the slow-mo scene showing Tom falling to the ground, indicating a crash pad.
  • Continuity: When McCord is looking in the closet for something for Jordan to wear there’s a blue feather hanging down. In the next shot, it is gone.
  • Revealing mistakes: When the second Dodge Magnum flips over, the air canister used to flip it is visible on the street.
  • Crew or equipment visible: When Tom Lincoln goes upstairs and enters his room, the camera crew is reflected in the door as it opens.
  • Continuity: When Lincoln Six Echo and Jordan Two Delta are running from the facility you can see their white tracksuits getting dirty, then when they are outside their white tracksuits are clean with no spots. Then in the next scene they are dirty again.
  • Revealing mistakes: When Lincoln Six Echo and Jordan Two Delta are escaping from the facility and running down a corridor, a man avoids running into Lincoln and then resumes to take out Jordan.
  • Errors made by characters (possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): Lincoln 6 Echo’s hair has dyed blonde tips. How can this be possible if he’s a clone?
  • Plot holes: There are numerous inconsistencies between generation names and clone ages. McCord can determine Lincoln’s and Jordan’s real ages by their generation designation … Lincoln is an “Echo” so he must be three, Jordan is a “Delta” so she must be four. But Starkweather, also a Delta, has only been there for six months while Gandu, another Echo, has been there for seven years. Seven Foxtrot, presumably two, is brand new while Lima One Alpha, created only as a breeder, has presumably been there for seven years.
  • Continuity: When Lincoln Six Echo decides to go back the facility to save everyone else, he has a large cut on just his right cheek. When he is in the helicopter on the way there, it has moved to his left cheek, facing the camera. When he gets to the facility, it has moved back to his right cheek.
  • Continuity: In the car fight between Ewan McGregor’s two characters, the shots that follow after Tom Lincoln is bitten (twice), are exactly the same shots of him being hit in the face.
  • Revealing mistakes: Right before the armored truck hits the police car, the police car had stopped in the middle of the street, even though there is nothing in the way.
  • Crew or equipment visible: At the end of the freeway chase, when Laurent steps out of the passenger side of his car, a camera and several crew members are reflected in the car’s door approaching the vehicle.
  • Crew or equipment visible: During the second car chase, when Lincoln swerves the Cadillac after shouting “Whoa!”, a camera car is visible in the background.
  • Revealing mistakes: When Jordan pulls the pistol out from under the sheet and shoots the guard, the squib tube going up his pant leg is clearly visible.
  • Revealing mistakes: When the Black Wasp skids along the freeway after crashing, the tow cable dragging it is visible.
  • Revealing mistakes: During the highway chase, you can see that the first train-wheel is made of foam rubber when it hits the road.
  • Continuity: When Jordan Two Delta nails the bad guy’s hand to the door, Lincoln Six Echo hits him twice in the head with a crowbar. In the next scene, the man is yelling in pain from having his hand nailed to the door. And later seen bandaging his hand, but no marks on his head from the crowbar.
  • Continuity: When Lincoln Six Echo and Jordan Two Delta see the boat sitting on the dock, it is visible out the window. In the close-up shot of Lincoln Six Echo, you can see a limited area of the dock, but the boat is missing.
  • Miscellaneous: The elevator doors open twice when the guards go to see the disturbance that Gandu 3 Echo caused.
  • Continuity: When Lincoln and Jordan fall into the “education room”, it shows Lincoln falling first but then it shows Jordan hitting the ground before Lincoln.
  • Continuity: The flying Black Wasp comes up on the right side of the truck. He then shoots out the tire, but the truck veers to the left and the right tire is still okay.
  • Continuity: When Lincoln Six Echo and the real Tom Lincoln are driving to the news station, they are stopped at a light when wreckage falls directly in front of them. Somehow it is cleared for them to speed away and the wreckage is no longer visible.
  • Continuity: The type of helmets worn by the pilot and gunner of the Black Wasp change between shots.
  • Crew or equipment visible: In the shot through the windscreen of the Black Wasp as it begins its descent over the freeway, a camera and three crew members are briefly visible in the bottom left corner of the frame.
  • Revealing mistakes: When the armored car lands upright after flipping over, the passenger door swings open, revealing the bars of the roll cage (which actually block entry through the door) inside.
  • Crew or equipment visible: Several camera cars are visible during the freeway chase – for example, one can be seen driving near the armored car as it begins to flip over.
  • Revealing mistakes: In the freeway chase, when the Hummer rolls over, you can see the roll cage through the back window.
  • Continuity: When Lima One Alpha is being poisoned shortly after giving birth, we see a toe tag on her right big toe; in the next shot, it has moved to her left foot.
  • Miscellaneous: The train wheels falling off the trailer fall and flip towards the pursuing police. In reality they would continue moving in the same direction as the semi and flip in the same direction.
  • Continuity: When the Laurent Team Members are chasing Lincoln Six Echo and Tom Lincoln and entering the warehouse, the right door of the car opens. Then in one turn, at one moment, it is closed, and right after is open again.
  • Revealing mistakes: During the freeway chase, when the Black Wasp’s gunner opens fire on the Mack truck, the arm of the gimbal suspending the Wasp over the freeway (to simulate flight) is reflected in his visor.
  • Plot holes: Merrick explains one part of keeping the clones in line is by closely engineering all their entertainment to promote passive, non-violent, compliant behavior. Yet earlier, in the clone “nightclub”, we’re treated to the image of Lincoln 6 Echo and Jordan 2 Delta smacking the stuffing out of each other in a holographic arena. The scene is actually meant to look violent, because it’s entertaining to see Lincoln haul off on her without restraint, because everything’s OK in a hologram.
  • Miscellaneous: Lincoln Six Echo has an accent unlike any of the other inhabitants of the colony. Accents are not hereditary but are the result of your environment, therefore, he should have the same accent as everyone else.
  • Crew or equipment visible: When Merrick’s colleague gives him the results of Lincoln’s brain scans, you can clearly see that the “panel” pictures are projected via static LCD beamers.
  • Plot holes: Dr. Merrick states that none of the clones are taught about sex when describing his predicament to Laurent, which is enforced by Lincoln Six Echo’s response to Tom Lincoln’s mentioning of said subject. However, earlier in the film, Jones Three Echo mentions that the women are “selected” as breeders, implying that he has at least some knowledge of t
