“Hostage” Goofs List
- Continuity: When Tommy and Jennifer are in the safe room, Mars smears a bloody hand print on the window and shoots the window three times, but when Jeff comes back to get Jennifer and Tommy, the hand print is less smeared and the bullet holes are not in the window.
- Revealing mistakes: When Tally blasts the indoor glass waterfall with the shotgun water is still pumping through, even though the transformers were blown out, and the house is on fire.
- Continuity: One of the hostage takers hits Walter Smith in the forehead, causing him a large contusion and bleeding. When Smith gets to leave his house and is put on a stretcher inside the ambulance, you can clearly see that there is no sign of injury where his contusion is supposed to be, and no blood either.
- Continuity: When the inside of the house is on fire, there is no smoke.
- Continuity: When the lady at the front desk calls for officers to respond to house, Bruce Willis walks away and when he arrives to the car she is still talking and ending her sentence. How would Bruce get all the way outside and to the car in the same sentence?
- Factual errors: Marshal is seen siphoning fuel out of a Mercedes. All modern Mercedes (and modern vehicles in general) are equipped with screens in the fuel line that prevent siphoning.
- Miscellaneous: Tommy looks at his hand which is bleeding, then he crawls through the crawl space and vents, but he leaves behind no bloody hand prints.
- Incorrectly regarded as goofs: When Talley & Smith get out of the ambulance where Talley’s wife & daughter are being held, Smith has a bandage on his head. After the rescue, we see Talley & family enter the ambulance. As the ambulance begins to pull away we catch sight of the driver, who is wearing a bandage around their head. The driver of the ambulance was indeed Smith.
- Continuity: In the end scene, in the old hotel, one of the kidnappers points a gun at Talley. Talley has taped a gun to his hand – in one shot the hammer is cocked, in the next it isn’t, then it the next shot it goes back to being cocked.
- Continuity: When Tommy cuts the tape around his hands at his bedroom, the piece of glass he uses has cut his hands open, wounding his hands and covering them in blood. However, when he crawls through the ventilation shaft, he doesn’t leave any traces of blood behind even though he needs his hands to crawl through the shaft.
- Continuity: When the boy drops the DVDs in the father’s den, they fall face down, in the next shot they appear face up.
- Continuity: The watchman fastens the seat belt across Talley’s chest (under his arms), but during the close-ups of the man in back restraining him, it appears to come over his left shoulder, not his chest.
- Revealing mistakes: When Talley crashes the car through the front gate, wires attached to the bottoms of the gate panels are clearly visible.
