“Funny People” Plot Summary
When seasoned comedian George Simmons learns of his terminal, inoperable health condition, his desire to form a genuine friendship cause him to take a relatively green performer under his wing as his opening act.

“Funny People” Goofs List
- Continuity: In the scene where George is playing with the hired musicians he is holding an electric guitar, when the camera changes he is holding an acoustic.
- Continuity: In the bar celebration scene, Sarah Silverman’s drink appears in and out of her hand between shots.
- Continuity: When George and Ira are in the kitchen for the first time, there’s a close-up shot of George’s glass to show how dirty it is. After George asks Ira to kill him, if you look at his glass you can see it becomes spotlessly clean.
- Errors made by characters (possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): When Chuck and Ira are working in Otto’s, Chuck says he’ll see Ira on Saturday at the comedy club. Later, at the club, Randy asks Ira if the crowd gets that wild on a Wednesday.
- Continuity: When George and Ira are at George’s house and Laura shows up, behind them you can see pool cleaners cleaning the pool. However, when it switches to the security camera, there is no one cleaning the pool.
- Continuity: In the medicine scene while George is informing Ira of his condition the Sugar free Red Bull moves from the medicine carrier to the counter and back again.
- Continuity: During the first few scenes of the movie, the white SUV George drives is a Cadillac Escalade. Most of the movie afterward, this changes to a GMC Yukon or Denali, particularly noticeable during the scene where George shows Ira his complimentary gifts.
- Continuity: During the final scene between George and Ira sitting at the table at Otto’s, the woman in the background (behind Ira) can be seen at the counter several times. Also, by the end of the scene, she leaves, but at the final shot, she suddenly returns to the counter.
- Revealing mistakes: In both Adam’s and Leslie’s homes there is the same issue of Esquire on top of their coffee tables. This must be a prop made for the movie because it doesn’t appear in Esquire’s cover archive for the past 30 years.
- Crew or equipment visible: When Ira is talking to George while he is trying to fall asleep, you can see equipment in the background.
- Crew or equipment visible: During the fight scene on the lawn, a cameraman becomes visible.
- Continuity: When Ira is playing George his playlist you can see he clicks on the second song but when it flicks back the song highlighted is way further down. It flicks back again and the highlight is back to the second spot.
- Continuity: Clarke invited Ira and George to watch the football finals from Australia. Later when Laura and George are talking in the driveway, she mentions that it is currently December. The football finals in Australia are always played in September.
- Revealing mistakes: In the ending scene of the movie when Chuck takes a photo of George Simmons, he uses his phone camera. His finger is clearly covering the camera on the phone but he still takes the shot showing it was a prop phone.
- Continuity: When George enters Ira’s house for Thanksgiving dinner, he points out to Leo that they have the poster for his movie “Re-Do” (the baby movie) hanging on the wall. During the scene while George and Leo are discussing the movie, the poster behind Leo switches from “Re-Do” to another film.
- Continuity: When George and Ira leave Laura’s house to head back to Los Angeles George is driving. When they first show George, the gear shifter is clearly still in the park position. Hence, he could not be driving. In the next shot, the gear shifter is not visible.
- Continuity: The can of Red Bull in George’s container of medication keeps changing it’s position.
- Continuity: When George is talking to Laura and she’s crying at his sad news, tears roll down her cheeks and nose. In the very next scene, she is still crying, but her face is completely dry and fresh tears form.
