“Fatal Attraction” Goofs List

• Continuity: When Dan is getting dressed after making love, Alex is still in bed and her breasts are exposed. Then the covers are up to her neck, then back to the foot of the bed, then to the side where she’s once more covered.
• Factual errors: In various scenes in Alex’s apartment, it is obviously daylight although some of the scenes take place at night.
• Continuity: The time on the clock when Dan and Alex first make love.
• Revealing mistakes: SPOILER: Obvious stunt doubles when Alex and Dan are fighting in the kitchen, and again when Dan is trying to drown Alex in the bathtub.
• Continuity: SPOILER: Alex slashes Dan’s arm. After he ‘drowns’ her, his arm is shown with a small but not bloody mark. At the end, his arm is bandaged and looks somewhat bloody.
• Continuity: SPOILER: When Dan tries to put Alex’s arms under the water, they’re bloody. They’re all washed off in the next shot, even though there was still blood on her arms.
• Continuity: SPOILER: Dan shoves Alex into the bath water face first when he tries to drown her. But in the next shot, only a second later, she has flipped the other way up, with no time or reason for this to be done.
• Continuity: Alex slits her wrists after she gets angry with Dan. Later on, when she goes to meet with Beth about buying the apartment, she has a wristwatch on one arm and a set of bracelets on the other. However, in a shot before Beth gives Alex their phone number, the bracelets fall farther down Alex’s arm, and you can see that her wrist is smooth without any scarring.
• Crew or equipment visible: Reflected in the window that the librarian pushes the cart past.
• Continuity: In the final bathroom scene, the bloody knife becomes clean when knocked on the floor.
• Continuity: Alex reaching for the same pack of cigarettes in her bag twice.
• Crew or equipment visible: As Beth walks into the kitchen to look at the boiling pot, the cameraman can be seen through the living room window.
• Continuity: Alex’s knife leaps from hand to hand.
• Crew or equipment visible: While Dan is in his attic study listening to a tape, Beth can be seen reflected in the window, waiting just out of shot for her cue.
• Continuity: Alex rips Dan’s shirt open. We hear buttons pop and cloth rip. When he buttons it the second time, the shirt is not ripped anywhere and all the buttons are present.
• Continuity: Dan and Beth’s phone number is clearly visible on the phone when Alex calls him the morning after their night together[212] 316-6752. Later in the movie Alex calls information to see why his phone number can’t be reached and quotes it as 212-555-8129.
• Continuity: In the cafe towards the beginning of the movie, Dan’s hair changes style from tidy to scruffy between shots.
• Continuity: Before the final scene, there is an outside shot of the Gallager home. It is supposed to be late Fall (Christmas decorations seen while Beth is driving, Ellen practicing for her Thanksgiving play) yet the trees outside the home are all in full bloom.
• Continuity: There is a large amount of blood on left side of Dan’s face when Alex removes her hands, then a far less amount when they cut back to his face after the shot of her hands.
• Continuity: The radio in Dan’s car was tuned to 97.1 when he popped in the cassette tape from Alex. When he arrived home and removed the tape, the radio was tuned to 107.9.
• Continuity: When Dan and Alex are making love in the elevator, they are first standing on the side closest to the windows, and then they move to the other side where shadows are cast from the windows. However, when we zoom in on them, they are back on the opposite side of the elevator.
• Boom mic visible: On the windshield of Dan and Beth’s car before Beth and Ellen leave.
• Factual errors: When Alex calls Dan in the middle of the night, from where she is we can clearly see that it is broad daylight, although it should be 2:00 in the morning and dark outside.
• Factual errors: When Dan breaks into Alex’s apartment, he sees a newspaper clipping about the death of Alex’s father, Stanley Forest (spelled with one r). However, Alex’s last name as listed in the credits is Forrest (spelled with two r’s).
• Continuity: When Dan speaks to Beth about Ellen missing school, Beth says “She’s only five years old. What’s she going to miss, trigonometry?” While eating dinner at Alex’s house later that same day, Dan tells Alex that he’s “got a six year old girl”.
• Continuity: When Dan pulls in to the driveway, Alex’s car is not there. It is visible in the next shot through the back window.
• Continuity: The tape recording that Dan listens to in his study is different than the one he listens to in his car. Alex’s tone of voice is different, and additional talking is added. Also, it is impossible for Dan to put the tape in the cassette and listening to the same things she says without rewinding the tape first.
• Continuity: Alex’s head tilts the opposite way when she tries to persuade Dan to not leave after he confronts her.
• Continuity: Dan listens to Alex’s tape during the ride home and when he arrives there. In the later sequence when he’s listening, these parts of her tape are almost at the same time. This is impossible due to Dan’s location when he listened to both parts.
• Continuity: When Dan is listening to Alex’s tape recording at home, the message sounds different from when he was listening to it earlier in the car.
• Revealing mistakes: When Alex tells Dan she’s pregnant, he doesn’t believe her. Alex then gives him her doctor’s business card and suggests that Dan call him. But no reputable doctor would give out such sensitive information to a total stranger.
• Continuity: In the final scene, Alex mysteriously shows up with a knife in the Gallaghers’ bathroom. It is not explained how she was able to get into the house unnoticed, since Dan was shown locking all the doors in the previous scene.
• Continuity: In the scene where Dan Gallagher is driving to Alex’s apartment to confront her about taking his daughter Ellen, he is in traffic, in the left lane, with a car directly parallel to him in the next lane on the right. When he switches lanes,the car that was in the lane he was getting into has suddenly disappeared, and a car a short distance away can be seen in the same lane.
