“Collateral Damage” Goofs List
- Errors in geography: In Colombia there is a scene of a soccer match, but the match is between America and Chivas, two popular teams from Mexico
- Crew or equipment visible: As Gordy is walking behind an ambulance at the end of the movie, the cameraman (wearing a dark colored shirt) is reflected in its rear window.
- Revealing mistakes: In the scene where the Wolf punishes one of the guerillas (for not recognizing Brewer) by forcing a snake down the guerilla’s throat, the actor’s eyelashes can clearly be seen moving after he is supposedly dead.
- Errors in geography: The accent of the native ‘Colombians’, is actually Mexican.
- Revealing mistakes: When the homeless man drops the briefcase as the police bust through the stall door, you can see the spring loaded hinge that pops open the briefcase.
- Continuity: When Selena is looking at potential terrorist attack sites on a flat screen computer monitor, some sort of Department of Justice sticker mysteriously appears on the top right corner of the monitor, then later disappears.
- Errors made by characters (possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): The terrorist group’s banner with the letters ALC and an outline of the Colombia is incorrect. The letter A is for Army, but the Spanish word for Army is Ejercito with an E.
- Errors in geography: Gordy enters Colombia through the Darien Gap. This Gap is in the Colombian department called Choco, the most African-Colombian populated region of the country. However, throughout the whole movie, a black person is never shown.
- Errors in geography: The Colombian police and army forces use green uniforms, not blue nor beige.
- Incorrectly regarded as goofs: When Gordy returns to scene of first explosion, Gates is introduced as a CIAgent, but wears an FBI badge. Typical CIA duplicity.
- Revealing mistakes: The snake used is not the poisonous coral snake. As the saying goes “Red on yellow kill a fellow, red on black friend of Jack.”
- Errors made by characters (possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): In the scene at the beginning of the movie where the bomb explodes we can see Gordy at the top of the stairs leading to the area where his wife and son are sitting. After the bomb explodes Gordy steps into traffic on the street (heading toward his wife and son) and gets struck by a vehicle. He had no reason to step into the street. Additionally he was parked on the same side of the street as the bomb.
- Audio/visual unsynchronized: The pipe music and the action of the pipers during the funeral are completely out of sync.
- Continuity: When Gordy is shocked, the bat falls out of his hand, but subsequently re-appears and disappears between shots.
- Continuity: When Matt and his father are playing with toys, Matt’s front left tooth is just growing in. When when Matt is coming out of the shower a short while later, the tooth is fully grown.
- Continuity: SPOILER: Gordy’s left sleeve is rolled up/down continuously while he is chasing Selena.
- Audio/visual unsynchronized: SPOILER: When Selena fires her gun in the elevator, the recoil on the gun is visible but there is no audible sound for the shot.
- Continuity: SPOILER: When Selena is dialing cellphone in elevator to set off the bomb (in the dinosaur toy), the partial number is shown dialed 555019, yet when she hits last number to hit send the 1 & 0 reversed, number is now 5551099.
- Continuity: SPOILER: When Selena shoots Peter Brandt from the elevator, the gun wound appears on Peter’s forehead only after he’s hit the ground. On his way down to the ground, directly after being shot, no gun wound is visible.
- Revealing mistakes: SPOILER: Near the end of the movie when the motorcycle is blown apart in the explosion, the rim that is left spinning in the stairwell is not the proper rim for the Honda CBR600F4
- Revealing mistakes: SPOILER: When the dinosaur toy explodes (after Gordy throws it through the glass roof), an explosion occurs to blow out the windows in the room. The source of this explosion is at the same level of the room, as opposed to higher up, where Gordy threw the toy.
- Errors in geography: SPOILER: When Selena Perrini tries to detonate the bomb inside the dinosaur toy near the end of the film, she dials a number beginning with 555. When Claudio attempts to detonate the bomb (at the very end of the film) inside the truck in the State Department’s garage, the number he dials begins with 954. This would put the bomb somewhere in the Fort Lauderdale area, as opposed to Washington.
