Revealing mistakes: When Edna discovers Tracy at Motormouth Maybelle’s record store party, the prosthetic makeup around John Travolta’s mouth can be seen cracking and separating when his lips purse.
Continuity: During the “You Can’t Stop the Beat” number, keep an eye on the large board with the bar charts illustrating how many viewers voted for each Miss Hairspray. The bar charts are not consistent between close up and long shots. Close up shots show Amber almost winning, Tracy close on her heels. Long shots during dance numbers show Tracy trailing by quite a bit.
Continuity: During You Can’t Stop the Beat, Amber, standing behind Corny Collins, repeatedly moves from his left to his right between shots.
Anachronisms: In “Good Morning Baltimore”, a 1963 Chevrolet Bel Air passes by.
Factual errors: During the opening “Good Morning Baltimore” song segment, a school bus labeled “Patterson School District” passes behind Tracy on the streets of Baltimore. Although she attends Patterson Park High School, it’s still the Baltimore School District.
Errors in geography: In the opening number “Good Morning Baltimore”, when Tracy is singing down the street, TTC (Toronto Transit Commission) streetcars are clearly visible at least twice.
Anachronisms: Tracy’s headboard bookshelf clearly shows three Disney’s Annette books. One of the books, “The Mystery at Smugglers Cove”, was not published until 1963. The books are visible during the “Good Morning Baltimore” and “Without Love” numbers.
Anachronisms: At several points in the film self-inflating whoopee cushions are depicted, but cushions of the self-inflating variety were not available until the 1990s.
Continuity: At the start of “Good Morning Baltimore,” Tracy’s alarm clock changes position three times.
Anachronisms: During the initial song “Good morning, Baltimore”, Tracy is walking on the street. She stops while singing and on the bottom right is the back of a Cadillac. The tail fin and 2 square lights below it are visible. The model is a 1963 caddy. The movie is taking place in the spring of 1962 and that model year would not have been out.
Continuity: At the beginning of “Run and Tell That”, Penny’s pigtails have little to no curl. On the bus, they become more curled, and during “Big, Blonde, and Beautiful”, they are perfectly curled.
Continuity: During “Run and Tell That”, Seaweed introduces Little Inez, with his arm around her neck which causes her collar to crinkle, but then the camera switches to Tracy and then back to Seaweed and Inez, but the collar is no longer crinkled.
Continuity: After “I Know Where I’ve Been”, when the crowd is chanting “2, 4, 6, 8, T.V.’s got to integrate,” Edna is clutching her white purse under her right forearm, but then the camera pans out and the purse move back to her side.
Anachronisms: In a classroom scene, the elevation of Mount Everest is listed on the green board as 29,035 feet. Although this information is correct, the correct elevation of Everest could not be determined before GPS (Global Positioning System) technology. At the time the events in the movie were to have occurred (1962), the accepted elevation of Mount Everest was 29,028 feet.
Continuity: All during the movie, the blond portions of Tracy’s hair change. The blond streaks below her headband don’t appear until her first appearance on the Corny Collins show. Especially during “Welcome to the Sixties”, the blond streaks above Tracy’s headband constantly change, even during the same scene as the camera shots are from different directions or they change locations, such as from room to room in the home and from inside to outside.
Anachronisms: There are a number of musical anachronisms: songs, LPs that were not yet available in 1962. The Top 10 chart on the CC Show has “Leader of the Pack” and other songs yet to be released. Motormouth’s record store racks show, among others, Jr. Walker & the All-Stars’ “Road-Runner” LP, Smokey Robinson & the Miracles’ “A Pocketfull of Miracles” LP, and a Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell LP, all not released for another few years.
Continuity: During the “Welcome to the 60’s” number when everyone is dancing in the street, Tracy and Edna are dancing and swinging their bags. In a closeup of Edna and Tracy, a pink flower falls out of Tracy’s hair and lands on the street next to her. In the following wide shot of everyone dancing, the flower isn’t visible, nor is it visible in the next closeup of Tracy and Edna.
Continuity: During “Run and Tell That”, when the students get onto the bus, its number is 17. When the students are inside the bus, its number is 26.
Revealing mistakes: Though specifically set in May and June of 1962, many of the trees seen in exterior shots have browning leaves, as the film was shot in the fall.
Factual errors: During the history class scene right before “Run and Tell That” the teacher writes on the board about the First Continental Congress in Philadelphia. He writes September 1st, but the correct date is September 5th, when it first convened.
Continuity: When Link is telling Amber off for teasing Tracy, the chair in front of Link is touching his desk, but in the next shot it isn’t. It then continually changes between shots.
Continuity: In the scene with Mr. Pinky, after he gives Tracy donuts, Edna moves her purse from her right arm to her left arm twice.
Continuity: When Penny hides behind the sofa when her mom enters the room she bounces a pillow off, in the next shot the pillow is back on the sofa.
Continuity: During “You Can’t Stop the Beat”, while Edna is dancing and singing, they pan over to Link, who is also singing. The words he sings do not match the words that Edna sings.
Continuity: When Tracy and Edna are entering Pinky’s Hefty Hideaway, a pink Cadillac disappears and reappears twice between shots.
Continuity: During the end of ‘Run and Tell That’, the order in which Tracy, Penny and Link get off the bus changes. Internal shots show Tracy coming off first, then Penny and then Link. When seen from the outside, however, Penny is the first of the three off, followed by Tracy and then Link.
Continuity: During Tracy’s first show on “The Corny Collins Show”, Amber is wearing a white layered dress. But a shot during the same scene, where everyone is facing the back of the set, shows Amber wearing the pink and white striped dress that she wears in the beginning of the movie. After that shot, she is back in the white layered dress.
Anachronisms: During the first musical number ‘Good Morning Baltimore’, Tracy runs across the street from an Esso to look at her reflection in a store window. In this window passed Tracy’s reflection a modern plastic water cooler can be seen in the store. The water cooler has a red and blue button with a blue light in the indent for the water spout.
Continuity: When Tracy gets off the garbage truck there’s a car behind it. But as she crosses the street and the shot changes, the car disappears.
Continuity: In the first “Nicest Kids In Town” number Amber Von Tussle is wearing a stripped pink dress and has her hair done like a bee hive. In the second “Nicest Kids In Town” number you can see a small clip from behind of her wearing the same thing. The first clip was used a second time.
Continuity: In “Miss Baltimore Crabs” There is a man with a clipboard standing in the background and he disappears from shot to shot. In the same number Penny moves closer and farther away from the group of girls auditioning.
Continuity: At the end of “It’s Hairspray”, Amber changes her positions 3 times. First, she’s on Corny’s left. The next shot, she’s on his right. The following shot she’s back to his left.
Factual errors: This takes place in the spring (May / June), but John Glenn orbited the earth in Friendship 7 on 20 February 1962.
Revealing mistakes: During “You’re Timeless To Me,” It shows the house lights on. In the very end of the song, when Wilbur blows out the candle, it is pitch black, but the house lights should still be on.
Revealing mistakes: In “Timeless To Me,” who lit the candle? Edna and Tracy were at Mr. Pinky’s shop. When they came back and Tracy went to bed, Edna changed then sang “Big Blond and Beautiful.” Edna was then crying on the bed.
Continuity: At the beginning of “Without Love”, Penny is tied to the bed with the jumprope, with knots both at her back and at the headboard of the bed. Seaweed cuts the knots behind her back, and the knots at the headboard magically release.
Continuity: In the scene when Motormouth Maybelle is singing, “I Know Where I’ve Been”, they do 3 quick scenes when Mayb

Continuity: During Cry-Baby’s band’s performance at Turkey Point, Hatchet Face uses different types of saxophones between shots.
Continuity: At the beginning when they are waiting to get a shot, Wanda is standing in front of a girl with a red dress. Then suddenly she stands behind the girl.
Continuity: When Allison is singing with the “Squares”, after she adjusts the microphone she is on the other side and the microphones’ lengths change between shots.
Continuity: When Cry-baby is talking to Allison in the beginning of the movie, Wanda takes the lollipop out of her mouth but in the next shot it is back in her mouth.
Factual errors: The prisoners are wearing 3D glasses while watching “Creature From the Black Lagoon”, but the print they’re viewing is normal black-and-white.
Continuity: Allison’s hair changes length during the film. In the final scene at the end her goes from shoulder length to past her collar bone when she is singing.
Continuity: After the immunizations, in the scene were Allison talks to the drapes for the first time, Lenora is standing on the steps trying to pose. The scene shoots away from her, but when it shoots back to her, her hair barrette has changed sides.
Audio/visual unsynchronized: When Cry Baby signals for Allison to come sing with him, his hand leaves the guitar strings but you can hear the guitar playing.
Continuity: During the song “Please Mister Jailer,” when Allison is dancing on the car, her hair is blowing across her eyes but in the close ups it’s pulled away from her face.
Continuity: In the courtroom, when the tire on Hatchet-Face’s mothers “iron lung” blows out, you can see a cigarette-butt on the floor right next to the wheel, and when it cuts back to the main shot, her father throws the cigarette to the floor.
Anachronisms: The movie is set in 1954 (given away by the banner in the gymnasium during the polio vaccinations that reads “Congratulations Class of 54!”). However, Milton is seen reading a copy of “Tales To Astonish #12″ in Ramona’s house. That comic came out in October 1960.
Continuity: In the opening of the film we see Wanda from a far with the girl in red that she growls at behind her. Yet when the camera comes closer the girl in red is in front of Wanda.
Revealing mistakes: While their making license plates and singing in the prison with Cry-Baby it’s obvious they’re not hitting their hammers against anything.
Continuity: The tattooed teardrop on Cry-Baby’s face at the end of the movie appears and disappears.
Continuity: During the big dance scene in the jail with all the inmates, Cry-Baby’s shirt is, from some camera angles, open all the way, and from other camera angles, just half way open.
Revealing mistakes: When all of the drapes are being taken into the courthouse to see the judge, Allison comes in with handcuffs on. The next time we see her, she has the handcuffs off.

Anachronisms: The jukebox in the diner is a 1973 Wurlizter 1050 (which copies the design of the famous 1015), yet movie is set in 1959.
Continuity: In the diner, Vai turns off the lights with her elbow, despite missing the switch by six inches.
Boom mic visible: The boom mic is reflected in the jukebox when Danny tells Sandy he has an image to protect. (In the just-released Rydell High edition (10/06), the boom mic has been digitally erased).
Continuity: When Frenchie is about to pierce Sandy’s ear, the bottle of wine switches between Jan and Sandy in between shots.
Continuity: Sandy’s “R” streamer on her sweater at the pep rally.
Revealing mistakes: Marty’s kneepad exposed when sliding at the end of the big dance.
Continuity: In the closing number, “We Go Together,” Doody and Frenchy switch places between the lines, “When we go out at night/And stars are shining bright.” Also, the blonde guy to the left of them goes from a sitting position to a standing position in the same error.
Audio/visual unsynchronized: In the final sequence while singing “You’re the One That I Want,” Danny and Sandy spin twice in the amusement park walkthrough (The Shake Shack). On the second twirl, you can tell that it is not perfectly in sync with the music.
Continuity: As Rizzo being escorted into the dance hall by the leader of the Scorpions, he removes his sunglasses. In the next shot, we see him remove them again.
Continuity: During Summer Nights, Rizzo’s shades repeatedly jump between her face and her hand between shots.
Continuity: During the last part of the racing sequence, along the river’s banked edge, Leo’s black convertible loses its front license plate, only to have it re-appear moments later.
Audio/visual unsynchronized: When Sandy clicks her tongue after her big change.
Audio/visual unsynchronized: At the cotton candy stand, Blanche is seen silently mouthing the question, “How many?” Moments later, from a different camera angle, the same question is asked – this time with audio intact.
Anachronisms: The TV truck (shown briefly before the scene in the gym) includes two roof-top air conditioners. These were not produced until the late 70s.
Continuity: As the Scorpions drive past the malt shop, Kenicke can be seen pointing at them and lowering his right hand twice.
Revealing mistakes: During “Greased Lightning” when the motor is dropped in the car and the fan is spinning, a string can be seen for a second making the fan spin.
Continuity: During the final musical number, “We Go Together”, at the carnival, the shadows on the ground change from short to long and back to short again.
Boom mic visible: When Danny is about to play basketball and the coach is talking to him you can see the boom mic’s shadow behind the coach.
Continuity: During the dance scene, when the teachers are congratulating Patty and Eugene, Eugene starts waving to the students. In the next shot, when the camera is facing the stage, he and all the other students are standing still.
Anachronisms: During the drag race, modern trucks and cars are seen driving on the overpass in the back ground.
Revealing mistakes: When Sonny snaps Tom’s suspenders as he is walking into the gym, a very visible microphone can be seen on the top right corner, and also part of the crew can be seen in the bottom right corner.
Continuity: While in the shake shack, some of the close-ups do not match the other scenes, in the far shots there are people and trees behind the bars, in the close-ups there are neither, and also the wall colors are different between shots.
Continuity: In the dance-off, just before Cha-Cha replaces Sandy as Danny’s dancing partner, there is a wide shot of Danny and Sandy dancing. In the corner you can see Cha-Cha walk out from behind some students. The camera then makes a close-up and she repeats the same movement.
Anachronisms: Frenchey makes a comical reference to the old advertising slogan “the heartbreak of psoriasis” years before the phrase was actually introduced in a 1964 Tegrin ad campaign.
Continuity: In the lunch scene, when Rizzo and Marty first sit down, there’s a half eaten apple in front of Rizzo’s lunch tray that keeps disappearing and reappearing between shots.
Boom mic visible: When Danny and Sandy are talking at the jukebox, one can easily see the reflection of the boom on the jukebox.
Continuity: During the fast dancing, there is bright daylight coming in through the gym windows. Seconds later, they turn down the lights for the “Blue Moon” slow dance. The gym is totally dark. This would be impossible since there was daylight coming in through the windows seconds ago.
Continuity: At the start of the ‘National Bandstand’ dance-off (the “Born to Hand Jive” number), the head of the cowboy decoration in the gym tips forward, spilling wads of paper off the brim of its hat. However, in the establishing shots prior to that there is no paper on the hat brim. In addition, a few seconds later, and as seen in other shots that follow, the head is intact and back in proper position.
Revealing mistakes: All of the actors are far past the typical high school age of 14 to 18 years and do not accurately represent high-school aged children: John Travolta (Danny) was 23 years old at the time of shooting; Stockard Channing (Rizzo) was 33 years old; Olivia Newton-John (Sandy) was 29 years old; Both Barry Pearl (Doody) and Jeff Conaway (Kenickie) were 27 years old; Michael Tucci (Sonny) was 31; Kelly Ward (Putzie), at 21 years old, was the youngest of the bunch, while Didi Conn (Frenchy) was 26 years old at the time of filming.
Continuity: A dummy is being burned in effigy during the pep rally; however, the amount of flames on the dummy goes from small to large (the dummy is fully ablaze) then back to small (a closeup shows the fire only on the upper torso and one can still read the undamaged sign on the dummy).
Continuity: In the beginning of “You’re the One that I want” Danny Zuko falls down in the dirt and when he gets up his black shirt is dirty in the belly area. Also, Olivia Newton-John’s character puts her dusty shoe on his shirt as well. Several scenes later, his shirt is clean again and remains clean for the rest of the song.
Continuity: During the drag race after the white Ford jumps the hood pops open, the grille falls out of place, and the trunk opens up, but in the next shot the only damage is a crooked bumper.
Continuity: In one scene at the diner, Doody hands over a banana split to Frenchy. As the camera angle changes he is seen handing over the same banana split again.

Errors in geography: After Michael and Kim pick up Julianne from O’Hare Airport, they’re heading north on Chicago’s Lake Shore Drive. Kimmy swerves wildly to her exit. The next time you see the car, it’s heading south on Lake Shore Drive with the Drake Hotel in the distance.
Continuity: Disappearing picture when Julianne is composing the email.
Continuity: In one of the chase scenes there’s supposedly two people in the BMW, but when they show a closeup of the car there’s obviously only one person.
Incorrectly regarded as goofs: Julianne has two pairs of sunglasses throughout the whole time she’s at Kimmy’s parents’ estate, often wearing one pair while the other is hanging on her top shirt button. When she and Michael reach the gazebo and she takes off the sunglasses she’s been wearing, one can see that she’s holding two pairs.
Errors in geography: The boat ride magically teleports the characters to many different points along the Chicago River, from Lake Shore Drive to being alongside Union Station (trains in background) to Clark Street Bridge (Merchandise Mart in background).
Factual errors: Julianne says that she had a minor in Psychology at Brown University; Brown does not have minors.
Continuity: When Jules enters the private box at the ballpark, she is carrying a full tray of beers. She then hands a couple to some guys. A few seconds later the tray is full again.
Continuity: When Kimmy and Julianne are having tea together, Kimmy’s necklace is tucked into/over her top.
Incorrectly regarded as goofs: Chef Charlie Trotter plays himself in the movie. He is a Chicago chef and, at the time of the movie, had no restaurants other than his signature restaurant in Chicago. Jules reviews his New York restaurant; presumably, he was either hired away by a new fictional restaurant in New York or has opened a fictional branch of his Chicago restaurant there.
Continuity: When Michael is sitting on the bench at the train station after looking for Kimmy, two men in uniform walk behind him. As Julianne finds him and is walking towards him, the same two men walk behind him again. And the newspaper in the guard’s hand changes from left to right.
Continuity: At the start of the movie in the restaurant the wine glasses have very little in them. Throughout the scene they have the same (realistic) amount until George takes a sip from his, when it suddenly has a lot more.
Continuity: When George comes over to see Julianne she lights a cigarette it disappears.
Continuity: Jules’s cigarette length changes as she is smoking outside her hotel room on the floor.
Continuity: When Jules is smoking outside the Hotel room and the door is pulled open ash falls in her hair, after a few shots of this scene the ash disappears, but she is still in the same position.
Errors made by characters (possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): In the restaurant, Dionne Warwick is referred to as Whitney Houston’s aunt. Dionne Warwick is actually her cousin.
Errors in geography: When Julianne is chasing Michael in the bread truck, she is talking on the phone and tells George that she is driving down Michigan Avenue. She is actually on Dearborn.
Errors in geography: In Chicago, Lake Shore Drive is bordered by Lake Michigan on the east and the city on its west side. However, in more than one scene when driving on Lake Share Drive, the lake is either on the wrong side of the vehicle, or it keeps changing sides of the vehicle.
Errors made by characters (possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): Kimmy is stated to be 20, yet orders an Amstel Light in the karaoke scene.

Revealing mistakes: As Satine and Christian descend from the top of the elephant and enter the chamber inside, the hanging ornaments above the entrance can be seen to start moving by themselves – this is from the wires that the actors had to wear when atop the elephant but which were digitally removed from the image.
Crew or equipment visible: When one of the Bohos is swinging on the chandelier during “the pitch” in the elephant, he is being pushed by a crewmember wearing a wristwatch and a baseball cap.
Revealing mistakes: After the emergency rehearsal/pitch, the camera pulls back out of the elephant and hits the suspended heart.
Continuity: During the performance of Spectacular Spectacular! when the Argentinian enters he can be seen walking down the stairs and joining the rest of the dancers. A moment later when the shot cuts to a different angle, he can be seen walking down the stairs again.

Audio/visual unsynchronized: In the “Elephant Love Medley” scene, Satine and Christian are obviously lip-syncing. A few times, they miss saying the word all together, or they are just a part of a second behind the pre-recorded vocals.

Continuity: While Satine is talking to Marie about being a real actress there is a candle burning by the mirror on the close up shot, but the next shot there is no candle.
Continuity: When Satine is shoving the Duke out of the elephant at the end of one scene, he is fully out the door but in the next shot she is shoving him out of the door.
Continuity: When Christian is mouthing the words of “Your Song” to Satine you can see that the fruit bowl has an apple and grapes on top of 3 oranges but during “the pitch” you can see that the oranges are on top of the grapes and the apple.
Continuity: When the champagne “disappears” from the Dukes hand it “reappears” back in the ice bucket during “the pitch”.
Continuity: During the ‘Spectacular Spectacular’ dress rehearsal, contents of the theatre behind the Duke changes with every cut. Sometimes there is nothing, sometimes there is a horse/donkey, sometimes a stack of chairs and sometimes there are the chairs laid out neatly.
Continuity: During Spectacular Spectacular, as Toulouse is yelling “The greatest thing you’ll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return” you see him start to grab the rope. When he starts to fall after Christian sings “Come What May” we see him not holding the rope, then suddenly he has the rope in his hand when he’s falling towards the stage.
Continuity: When the Duke enters the elephant, Christian is hiding behind Satine. In alternating shots, he hides both beneath her cloak and behind her cloak.
Revealing mistakes: While “Spectacular, Spectacular” is being sung, it is clear that Toulouse is dragging his “feet” instead of lifting them.
Continuity: When Satine is dressing to meet the Duke for the first time, she wears a red dress and asked Zidler for his approval (“Smoldering temptress?”). Then when she goes to meet the “Duke” in the Elephant, she has changed into a black gauzy outfit with a different hair style. Later that evening, singing with Christian atop the Elephant, she’s back in the red dress again and her hair is done to match the first scene.
Audio/visual unsynchronized: When Satine says, “You’re going to be bad for business”, we see her from behind – but it is obvious her lips are not moving. (The remainder of the phrase, “I can tell”, is shown from the front and her lips do move).

Anachronisms: In the first scene we see a completed white domed church of Sacre Coeur atop the hill. The basilica was not completed until 1914, 14 years after the story takes place. Crew or equipment visible: SPOILER: In the scene when Sam is proposing to Donna, before she sings “I Do”, you can clearly see the prompt screen reflected in Rosies glasses.
Continuity: During the scene above the ‘old goat’s house’ in which Donna is singing Mamma Mia, the amount of dust/dirt on the knees of her dungarees changes between shots.
Continuity: During the Chiquitita number, the amount of liquid in the glass that Tanya brings to the scene changes between shots.
Revealing mistakes: In the scene where Donna is repairing the shutter with a cordless drill, there is not a bit in chuck, so there’s no way it could “repair” the shutter. The empty chuck is visible in subsequent scenes with the same drill.
Continuity: During the dancing scene on the beach, there is what appears to be a decanter and an ice bucket on the bar. These objects change position when the camera angle has changed.
Continuity: During the “Does your Mother Know” dance scene at the beach bar, a dancer in the background is suddenly wearing sunglasses in one shot, they are gone on the next shot of her, and then she’s wearing them again.
Revealing mistakes: During the “Chiquitita” number, when Donna’s friends are cheering her up, they force a beverage to Donna’s lips. Though Meryl Streep acts to be choking on the drink, the liquid actually never gets beyond the bottom half of the glass.
Continuity: During the scene on the boat when ‘Our Last Summer’ is being sung, Sophie is seen sat next to Bill holding a picture of him in her hands. However it is Bill’s hand holding the photo in the close-up shot of the picture.
Continuity: When Donna is repairing the dolphin mosaic with the caulking gun, the tip breaks off of the tube. In subsequent shots, the tip is unbroken.
Crew or equipment visible: During one song an extra is up a ladder and has the ladder pulled out from underneath him leaving him hanging from the window ledge. When the angle changes to a close up of him the safety wire can be seen going out of his clothes and up into the window.
Continuity: On the way up to the goat house, the upper left sleeve of Harry’s shirt has some sort of stain (looks like an oil or sweat stain) on it. In the following shots, the stain is gone.
Audio/visual unsynchronized: When the orchestra begins after the initial verse during Harry’s “Our Last Summer”, the chords he plays on the guitar don’t match the music.
Audio/visual unsynchronized: When Donna, Rosie and Tanya are sat on the sofa, Tanya forced Donna back down after she tries to get up. We can hear a high pitched laugh from Meryl Streep but her mouth doesn’t move to match the sound.
Continuity: In the scene where Sophie and her brides maids are trying on their dresses she uses safety pins to shorten the chain straps. When Skye comes in the pins are no longer visible, only the chains.
Continuity: When Donna runs out to her friends who are getting of the boat in the behind shot her arms are in the air, but in the front shot her arms are down.
Incorrectly regarded as goofs: In the scene when Sam, Bill, and Harry first arrive at the Villa all three men seem to have known about Donna having a daughter. While Donna later reveals before the “Dancing Queen” number that she never told any of the men about Sophie, we can however assume that in the invitation the men received, Sophie’s name was enclosed.
Continuity: As the song “Lay your Love on Me” transforms into Sophie’s bachelorette party, cast members are holding Sophie up and she drinks from a bottle and throws it. After she throws it, they lay her on her back and her hair falls off her shoulders, but in the following close-up shot, her hair falls off her shoulders again.
Continuity: During the “Lay All Your Love on Me” sequence, the close-ups of Sophie and Sky’s embrace reveal that Sophie’s lower body is fully clothed, a black waistline being visible.
Continuity: When Tanya, Rosie and Donna are singing Dancing Queen in the bedroom, Tanya comes up with a silver hair dryer. In the next shot, when she is standing up, the hair dryer has changed colors to blue.
Audio/visual unsynchronized: When Sky is hugging Tanya for the first time you can hear Donna say ‘And all true!’ yet her mouth doesn’t match the speech.
Continuity: In the does your mother know scene, Tanya isn’t wearing shoes as they are in her bag. You see them in the bag when she puts her bag on the bar. In the next dance scene she’s wearing her shoes.
Continuity: When entering the chapel with her daughter, Donna’s shawl is off her shoulder, however when camera views from the rear, it is over her shoulder as it is in the subsequent shots.
Continuity: When Sophie is at her bachelorette party she is lowered on to her back and her hair falls off her shoulders. The scene cuts and when it goes back she is still being lowered and her hair falls off her shoulders yet again.
Continuity: When Donna is kissing Sam after she says “I do” she only has a ring on her pinky, and after she puts the wedding ring on her opposite hand she kisses Sam again and there is still the ring on her pinky but there is also one on the finger next to her pinky as well.
Audio/visual unsynchronized: Just after Tanya and Rosie arrive, Donna takes the laundry down and says “You think they would figure out a machine that would make the beds,” but her mouth isn’t moving for some of the sentence.
Continuity: In the scene where the guys take Skye away to his bachelor party, they dance on the dock before diving into the water. In the different shots, the boat anchored off the dock appears and disappears.
Continuity: When Donna sings “The Winner Takes It All”, in the beginning of the sequence, she holds her hands together, in the very next shot her arms are along her body.
Continuity: When Tanya gets out of the paddle boat she is barefoot, when she grabs her towel she is still barefoot, half way through her song “Does Your Mother Know” she is wearing silver flats. The same silver flats she was wearing on the dock when Donna pushed her into the water.
Audio/visual unsynchronized: During the “Lay All Your Love On Me” song, when the camera is on Sky’s back as he draws near Sophie. You can see his mouth move when there are no words being sung (twice).
Incorrectly regarded as goofs: The closing line of Abba’s song was written as “digging the dancing queen,” yet the fans have sung it as “dig in the dancing queen” for so long that this lyric has become an acceptable transcription for the DVD subtitles.
Errors made by characters (possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): For at least 30 years, Abba and their admirers have sung “My my, at Waterloo, Napoleon did surrender,” yet this is not true. ‘Napoleon Bonaparte’ retreated from Waterloo in June 1815, attempted for a month to hold his army together, then traveled to the European coast, where he surrendered to the British Navy.

Revealing mistakes: When Christine is visiting the cemetery, we see her pass the same set of tombstones (most notably a small stone with an iron fence and a much larger one shaped vaguely like a bed) from three or four different directions before she finally reaches her father’s tomb.
Continuity: When Meg steps out of the underground river and into the Phantom’s lair, her brown pants are clearly soaked with water; a few moments later, when she finds the Phantom’s mask in the bedchamber, her pants are perfectly dry.
Continuity: Christine’s hair is wild while running up the staris in “Why have you brought me here… and then on the roof her hair is pulled back.
Crew or equipment visible: During the chandelier scene, when the camera pans on the audience rushing out of the theater, several crew members are visible in street clothes in the top left corner.
Audio/visual unsynchronized: During the beginning of the “Masquerade” scene the singers lips are not matched to the music.
Audio/visual unsynchronized: At the end of “Music of the Night” as the Phantom is laying Christine into her bed, his mouth and the audio are unsynchronized.
Revealing mistakes: When the Phantom does not wear his mask, you can see that the right side of his face is disfigured, including his right eye. But when he’s wearing his mask, the right eye can be seen anyway – and it’s not disfigured.
Continuity: The last letter that is read in the “Letters” scene does not match the letter that the Phantom is seen to be putting in the envelope. In addition, the text on the letter is obviously too short to match the words that are read by Firmin and spoken by the Phantom.
Revealing mistakes: After Raoul swims up to take his breath while trapped under the grate, the iron grid is show dropping into the water. However, the bubbles travel downwards, showing that the shot was reversed.
Continuity: When Christine lights a candle for her father in the chapel after “Think of Me”, she lights her match from another candle. However, when the shot switches to over her shoulder, the candle she lit is the only one burning.
Continuity: At the beginning practice, when the phantom drops the background on Carlotta, he drops a letter down. When it falls down, it is a pure white envelope with the red emblem. When Madam Giry picks it up, the lines on the envelope are outlined in black with the red emblem.
Revealing mistakes: The rope that the Phantom cuts and causes the chandelier to crash is hanging limp when it is tied to the rail on the stage, which means that when it was cut it would only probably hang there. If it really was the rope keeping the chandelier suspended then it would be taut because of the weight.
Continuity: When Christine is in the boat and being shown around the Phantom’s lair for the first time, the lock of hair over her left shoulder changes from being very curly to wavy in between shots.
Continuity: During the “Point of No Return” reprise, the Phantom places the veil on Christine’s head. When the camera pans from her face to his, we can clearly see the back of her head, and there is no veil, but when the camera pans back to her it is there again.
Continuity: During the Masquerade scene, when the phantom comes downstairs, he has not got the bag with the Don Juan Notes in his hand, but when he arrives at the bottom of the stairs, he throws the bag with the notes on the floor.
Audio/visual unsynchronized: During “Prima Donna” Carlotta’s lips do not match the words being sung.
Incorrectly regarded as goofs: When the Phantom takes Christine down to the catacombs for the first time, her hair and makeup slowly change from being simple and understated, to more sophisticated and womanly. The director has stated that this was deliberate and that the change in Christine’s appearance during this scene was intended as a metaphor to representing her sexual awakening.
Audio/visual unsynchronized: In the semi-beginning of ‘Music of the Night’ the Phantom’s mouth comes in too late for the words when he saying “Live as you’ve never lived before.”
Audio/visual unsynchronized: When the phantom takes Christine down to his lair and places the veil on her head, saying “an eternity of this before your eyes” his mouth does not match the words.
Audio/visual unsynchronized: When Raoul runs to Christine and says “Are you alright”, we hear her say “Raoul we’re not safe here” but her mouth does not move.
Continuity: When the Phantom is on the rooftop after Christine and Raoul leave, you can clearly see the Phantom’ footsteps in the snow. Notice how Christine’s and Raoul’s have disappeared, even though they were just there.
Continuity: During the point of no return scene, when the phantom grasps Christine’s wrists, the gold bracelet become unclasped. Yet when the camera view switches, the bracelet is secured and in place.
Anachronisms: At the beginning of the movie, we see that the “current” year is 1919. Just before the Masquerade party scene, it shows us the old Raoul staring out of the car window at a couple looking at jewelry. The window says Swarovski and shows the swan logo underneath. While Swarovski was indeed around in 1919, the original logo was an edelweiss flower. The company did not adopt the swan for their logo until 1988, nearly 70 years after the events of the movie.
Revealing mistakes: During the chandelier scene, the crowd is running and you can see the knee pads on the women when their dresses come up.
Revealing mistakes: When the Phantom is on the rooftop after Christine and Raoul leave, You see the Phantom’s cape blowing in the wind. If you look closely, you can actually see that there are two capes blowing in the wind, one under the other. This is due to the fact that the film editors added a digitally created cape to blow in the background, but for whatever reason, did not match its movements with the real cape the Phantom was wearing.
Miscellaneous: During the Scene on the rooftop, the Phantom picks up the rose that Christine dropped and slowly tears the petals off in his hand. We see the petals falling as they are torn, but it is easy to see that after the stem of the rose falls, there are less then half of the petals that are on a rose on the ground around the stem.
Miscellaneous: During “Music of the Night”, when the Phantom is carrying the fainted Christine towards the bed, Christine’s head accidentally hits the large tassel on a nearby curtain.
Revealing mistakes: When Christine is walking through the cemetery, you can’t see her breath even though it is cold enough to be snowing.
Revealing mistakes: During Christine’s first performance, once the audience appears, if you slow the video down, you can clearly see that the actors in the very back left of the theater are legless mannequins with cloth thrown over the tops.
Continuity: In the “Masquerade”, Christine and Raoul are dancing and they have their masks in their hands. However, when the camera changes its angle, the masks disappear, and then again reappear.
Continuity: Throughout the entire “Music of the Night” sequence the slit on Christine’s nightgown changes from her right side to the center. This continues on up through “Stranger Than You Dreamt It.”
Crew or equipment visible: During the mirror scene, you can clearly see Madame Giry in one of the mirrors waiting for her cue, just before the rope drops down from the ceiling.
Continuity: When Christine and Raoul kiss on the rooftop, he picks her up and spins around. During this, her hand is on the back of his head, but when the camera goes in for a closer shot, her hand is around his neck.
Continuity: When Meg goes to look for Christine after she sings ‘Think of Me’, she walks backstage and passes Monsieur Firmin and Monsieur Andre and stops at the hallway. Then when the camera switches over to the new managers, Meg walks past them again, even though she just went down a hallway.
Continuity: During the “Point of No Return” scene, the Phantom is clean-shaven. In the following scene in the Phantom’s lair, he clearly has a five o’clock shadow, even though the progression of the story is merely minutes.
Revealing mistakes: In the scene of “Don Juan” it shows a birds eye pan over of the audience in the ground level (orchestra seating). The people in the back few rows are not people but figurines of head and torso, they do not have legs.
Continuity: While Meg is congratulating Christine after her “Think of Me” performance, she puts her hand on Christine’s shoulder and then takes if off. When the camera cuts to face Meg, she is taking her hand off Christine’s

Anachronisms: When Jude is on the beach in the “Blackbird” sequence, the wind turbines in The Mersey Estuary can be seen.
Revealing mistakes: In the scene where the white women dance on top of the water and, subsequently, fall in, one of the platforms that a dancer (on the right side of the “v”) is standing on is clearly visible, covered and uncovered by the waves.
Continuity: In the first scene where Jude is at home with his mother, he barely spreads butter over a piece of bread and puts it in his mouth. When he turns around, the butter is spread across the entire piece.
Continuity: When Lucy is trying to make it to the roof at the end of the movie the police officers go from having night sticks in their hands to having their hands facing palms out to stop the crowds.
Revealing mistakes: The boy in the coffin during the “Let it Be” sequence is very clearly breathing.
Anachronisms: In the scene in New York’s Port you can see a modern day ferry in the background.
Anachronisms: A modern Merseyrail train can be seen crossing a bridge in the background of one of the Liverpool shots.
Continuity: When Max is playing golf on the roof the beer bottle used for as a tee disappears and reappears between shots.
Continuity: Mr. Kite’s yellow gloves vanish when he’s ushering the group into the tent, then reappear when he’s in the tent.
Anachronisms: In the scenes taking place on the high school basketball court, there are floor markings for a three point arc. High schools did not adopt the three point shot until the 1980s.
Continuity: While the characters are outside Mr. Kite’s tent, the lighting and shadows keep changing from a mid-day light to a sunset-like light.
Crew or equipment visible: While Max is fighting in Vietnam during “Helter Skelter” his M16 has a blank firing adapter installed on the end of the barrel, which allows the prop weapon to fire multiple rounds.
Continuity: During the “Strawberry Fields Forever” sequence a shot shows Jude’s foot splattered with bright red paint. Once the shot cuts away and back, the paint disappears. When the shot then cuts away and back a second time the splattered paint is on his foot again.
Anachronisms: When Jude returns to Liverpool and is conversing with his old girlfriend, a SmartCar passes by in the background.
Factual errors: The armory which Max enters is actually located on 26th Street and Lexington Avenue in New York City. At the armory there is a gold “69″ in the floor when you enter. It represents the Fighting 69th Regiment located in this armory. When Max enters the “69″ is not visible.
Anachronisms: “Crash” bumpers (able to withstand a 5 mph impact) are seen on the Checker cab. “Crash” bumpers weren’t used on cars until the 1973 model year. The cab seen is at the earliest a 1974 model.
Anachronisms: When Jude is seen packing his stuff in his Liverppol bedroom just after finishing on the docks we can see a Liverpool FC poster on the wall mimicking the famous “This is Anfield” sign. The LFC crest design shown on that poster hadn’t come into being in the 60’s – in fact it’s probably more at home in the late 80’s.
Revealing mistakes: During the “Come Together” dance number in the New York, one of the dancers holding a briefcase trips during the combination.
Continuity: During the “It Won’t Be Long” sequence in Lucy’s bedroom with her sister and her sister’s friend, the young girls are laying on the bed holding a bowl of popcorn and singing backup to Lucy, in the next shot, when Lucy joins them on the bed, the popcorn has dissolved into thin air.
Factual errors: Military deaths are reported to family by two officers, one of which is a Chaplain. The personnel that tell Daniel’s mother of his death are both Sergeants.
Continuity: During the “Strawberry Fields Forever” sequence, when Jude first starts to paint the big strawberry, his right arm is behind his head before he starts to paint. His arm crosses his body to the left and when the camera shot is zoomed out, his right arm is behind his head again.
Crew or equipment visible: When Jude was in the first car of the subway during “Across the Universe”, a crew can be seen in the window reflection on the right side of the screen.
Revealing mistakes: As Mr. Kite backs up, he inadvertently bumps into one of the blue people.
Continuity: Towards the end where the police are blocking off the Strawberry Jams building, in one scene as Lucy just got back they don’t have the batons, but the shot right after they are all holding batons.
Errors made by characters (possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): During the “I Am The Walrus” scene, the man sings “coo coo cachoo” when the real lyrics to the original song was “goo goo gachoob”.
Errors made by characters (possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): When Lucy quotes the opening lyrics to “I Am the Walrus”, she says “I am me, as you are he, as you are me”. The correct opening (as sung by Dr. Robert) is “I am HE, as you are he, as you are me”.
Audio/visual unsynchronized: When Jo-Jo is playing guitar solo in “Come Together”, it sounds like his Telecaster has a whammy bar, which it has not. He even mimes using it with his right hand. But with his left hand he doesn’t even bend the strings.
Errors made by characters (possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): When Jude and Max run into each other at Princeton and the books fly everywhere, they leave some papers on the ground.
Anachronisms: Just prior to the song “Dear Prudence”, Max is holding a box of “Cap’n Crunch” cereal with a modern design.
Errors made by characters (possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): Prudence bumps her head as she “comes in through the bathroom window”.
Revealing mistakes: The movie clearly takes place in November (hence Thanksgiving) in and around New York City and progresses from there, but snow is never seen. Also, it would be way too cold to be driving around with the top down in a convertible.
Revealing mistakes: During the “Happiness Is A Warm Gun” scene, whenever the priest closes the soldier’s eyes, meaning that he’s died, right before the priests closes the lids, you see the soldier’s eyes briefly blink.
Continuity: SPOILER: When Max is in the hospital, the bed posts change between the beginning and end of the scene.
