• Revealing mistakes: When Rabbit and friends are shooting the paintball gun out of the car, the gun had no “ball hopper” (the container that sits on top of the gun that feeds paintballs into the gun to shoot). It would be possible to manually place individual balls in the gun but no one did so during the scene.
• Continuity: In the basement, Future is holding his cigarette between his fore- and middle-fingers, but in the next shot it is between his thumb and forefinger.
• Continuity: When Rabbit goes to his mother’s trailer for the first time he is wearing street shoes but when he takes Lily into the trailer he is wearing boots.
• Continuity: Length of B-Rabbit’s sideburns.
• Anachronisms: When Rabbit and his crew are driving through Detroit at night before they shoot the pintail’s, they pass a CVS Pharmacy store. These stores were known as Arbor Drugs in 1995 before they were bought out and turned into CVS.
• Crew or equipment visible: In the last rap battle, a cable is visible.
• Revealing mistakes: In the first battle, the DJ is playing the instrumental of “The Next Level (remix)” by Show + AG, which was released on PayDay records. The records shown on the decks aren’t on PayDay records. In addition to this, the DJ is using the same records in the end battle (where a different track is being played).
• Errors made by characters (possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): In the Rap Battle sequence, Future calls Lotto and Lyckety-Splyt by their real-life rap aliases “Ox” (Nashawn ‘Ox’ Breedlove) and “Strike” instead of their characters’ names.
• Incorrectly regarded as goofs: When rabbit and Alex are “together” in the factory, they separate for a couple of seconds and it seems that someone runs past in the background. However, this is actually Alex’s arm moving.
• Revealing mistakes: When B-Rabbit is using Sol’s paintball gun, he fires it at the police cruiser’s window, but the direction of the paint splatter is seen coming from the opposite direction.
• Anachronisms: Mentions Detroit’s casinos, which weren’t built until 1999, 4 years after the movie’s setting.
• Continuity: When Jimmy is getting his sweater from behind the bin before he chokes at the first battle, there is one point where cheddar bob says “are you going to stay at your mum’s?”, when he finishes saying this he puts his cigar to his mouth, the angle then changes so you can see all of the 313, bob is clearly holding his cigar down when it should be in his mouth.
• Continuity: During the fight in the trailer, a rail on the kitchen counter gets broken. A few minutes later it is fixed.
• Crew or equipment visible: When Jimmy Smith Jr. is talking outside the factory, the crew (holding the boom mic) are reflected in the window behind him
• Anachronisms: Set in 1995, later model cars are seen driving by in many scenes.

• Continuity: Although Rae is thrown in the dirt many times, her underwear stays perfectly white through out the ordeal.
• Continuity: Despite Rae running around in the dirt for much of the film in bare feet, her feet stay remarkably clean.
• Continuity: When Lazarus is entering the pharmacy he pulls a shirt over an obviously dirty tank underwear shirt with yellow staining at the front neckline. When he talks to the pharmacist moments later he’s wearing the shirt, but his still-showing underwear shirt is pristine white.
• Continuity: When Lazarus is sing in the bar towards the end of the film. The cable on the microphone he is using keeps switching from being wrapped around the microphone stand, to just falling straight to the floor.
• Continuity: The position of Rae’s over-sized shirt changes from very low on her left shoulder to just below her neckline in the beginning, when she says goodbye to Ronnie.
• Revealing mistakes: When Ronnie and Gill go back to Ronnie’s house and everything is just as it was left some days ago, the lava lamp on the table has clearly not been on for very long.
• Continuity: The shape and location of the scar on Lazarus’s right shoulder changes several times through out the film.
• Continuity: Right after Rae discovers that Lazarus has chained her to the radiator, there are a series of shots from different angles. When filming Christina Ricci from behind, her shirt is down to the middle of her upper arm on both sides, but when filmed from the front, her shirt is on her shoulder on the left arm.
• Incorrectly regarded as goofs: Ronnie’s American Flag patch on the right sleeve of his BDU shirt before he leaves appears to be backwards. However, this is in accordance with Army regulations that call for the flag to appear as if the wearer was advancing toward the battle; if the flag was reversed, it would appear that the colors were retreating. The unusual layout is due to the requirement to wear the flag on the right sleeve – the position of honor on the US Army uniform.

• Continuity: SPOILER: When Vesuvius leave the Stage at the end of the movie and A.D.D. reenter it, it can clearly be seen that the drum kit of Vesuvius is covered again and the much smaller drum kit of Fish is on Stage, which wasn’t their when Vesuvius started to “play”.
• Errors in geography: When Fish is kissing the mom on the roof on the Midwest Tour, the Toronto skyline (Bank of Montreal Tower, Scotiabank Plaza, and TD Tower) is in the background.
• Revealing mistakes: When “Fish” is flung off the top of Vesuvius’ van you can see he lands on a mat.
• Continuity: When “Fish” is flung off the top of Vesuvius’ van he lands with his head towards the van, but in the next shot he is sideways.
• Factual errors: Vesuvius is slated to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame after 20 years together. However, artists aren’t eligible for induction (barring an extenuating circumstance) until 25 years have passed since the artist released his/her/their debut.
• Errors in geography: When Fish is on the porch he looks at the Rock Hall. There is no such view from any house in Cleveland. The Rock Hall is downtown, surrounded by large buildings with no residential neighborhoods.
• Continuity: The position of the drums after Fish knocks them over as he quits the band.
• Audio/visual unsynchronized: During shots of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame show the tom drums appear loosened and out of tune and would not produce the sounds heard live.
• Continuity: During a crane shot of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame show Fish’s drum set appears as a larger drum set with two bass drums instead of the smaller setup with just one bass drum with “A.D.D.” written on it.
• Continuity: During a crane shot of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame show Vesuvius’s double bass drum set is being shown instead of Fish’s set.
• Incorrectly regarded as goofs: When the video director asks the band to read the words backwards, he has a sign held up for them to read backwards words. However, the word ‘mistake’ is spelled as k-a-t-e-s-i-m when it should be e-k-a-t-s-i-m. If you sound out “k-a-t-e-s-i-m” phonetically, it would be “mistake” backwards. “e-k-a-t-s-i-m” wouldn’t work.
• Continuity: During the prom scene, the cymbals that are behind Fish have large breaks. However, the one on the left changes the position of the break between shots.
• Plot holes: Matt comes to Lee’s basement to present Fish with a laptop and web-cam to practice, but Matt wouldn’t know where Fish was staying as Matt was grounded so could not use the phone, Fish is not seen to own a phone and Matt’s mum would not want to stay in contact with Fish.
• Factual errors: YouTube does not allow you to upload videos with nudity in them (the video of Robert naked).
• Errors in geography: When Fish is dumped by his girlfriend at the beginning, he walks to his sister’s house to crash, and he is shown walking North past the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame to get there. Not only is there no residential area in that direction, but if he walked just a little bit further, he would walk right into Lake Erie, as the Rock Hall is on the Erie shore.
• Continuity: During the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame show, when A.D.D. come back onto the stage to play, there is a scene where Amelia is singing into the Mic, but as the scene changes she appears at the back of the stage next to “Fish”. As the scene changes again she is next to her Mic again.
• Errors made by characters (possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): When Fish takes the phone photo with Curtis, he says “on three”, but then starts counting down “three, two, one.”
• Errors in geography: When A.D.D. first gets on the bus, Gator makes a reference to “heading north on the 5.” They were in Cleveland, but the 5 is on the west coast. Also, north from Cleveland gets you very wet.
• Revealing mistakes: During A.D.D.’s set at the Hall of Fame show, there is a pull away shot which is reversed. In the shot, the lead singer is playing the guitar left-handed and the bass player and keyboard players are flipped.
• Revealing mistakes: After Aziz has taken off the plastic wrapping of his new bought Vesuvius CD, he takes it out the box and holds it up with the back facing the camera – The CD is clearly a CD-R with a green recordable back, not a silver backing like any original store bought audio CD would have.
• Errors in geography: The skyline shown right before A.D.D. views their music video is of Minneapolis (Wells Fargo building, US Bank building, etc.) not Cleveland.
• Continuity: When ADD is warming up for Vesuvious, Matt pitches his hat to his number 1 fan. Later, when they re-take the stage after Vesuvious stalks off, Matt is wearing his hat again.
• Continuity: When Fish is helping Amelia with her hair, he holds up a bottle of product with the bar code facing Amelia. In the reverse shot, the bar code is facing Fish.
• Revealing mistakes: When Amelia and Matt are playing Rock Band on the tour bus, the notes continue to be hit on the TV after they stop playing the Rock Band guitars to talk, and it switches from one player to two between shots.
• Continuity: When the band is recording “Bitter”, the position of Curtis’s microphone changes throughout the song, from up near his face, to down by his chest.

• Continuity: When June is throwing the beer bottles at the guys, in the long shot, Johnny jumps behind the fallen table, and there is nothing in front of it. In the close-up there is a chair in front of the table. When June leaves, the chair is gone again.
• Continuity: When Johnny falls out of his chair at the concert hall, his beer is in his hand. When he sits up, his beer is to the side of him, as if he set it there.
• Continuity: Jerry Lee Lewis wears a white scarf during most of the “Lewis Boogie.” It’s gone by the end of the song.
• Continuity: When Johnny is in the recording studio for the first time, his guitar strap goes from over his collar to under it, and back, in almost every shot.
• Anachronisms: In an early scene, Johnny and Jack Cash walk down the road on their way to the fishing hole. Johnny quotes a line from a Foghorn Leghorn cartoon. The scene takes place in 1944; Foghorn Leghorn debuted in 1946.
• Anachronisms: When Vivian shows John the eviction notice, the document shows an address with a ZIP code. In the 1950s, a city the size of Memphis would’ve had zone numbers (ex. “Memphis 11, Tenn.”). ZIP codes started in 1963, and they weren’t routinely used in places with one ZIP code for several years after that.
• Audio/visual unsynchronized: The first time we see June singing with her band, the fiddle player standing to the left of her plays a back beat (bowing on the second half of every beat); but we don’t hear any fiddle until later in the song.
• Continuity: When Johnny is hanging pictures, he begins to put a nail in the wall just above a line in the wood. In the very next shot, he bangs a nail several inches higher.
• Anachronisms: Early in the movie, Johnny Cash walks out onto the street in Memphis and you see old cars and an old mechanical parking meter. As he walks along, you soon see a modern 4-space parking meter.
• Anachronisms: Sam Phillips’s Chesterfield pack has a bar code.
• Audio/visual unsynchronized: The second time that the band is in the Folsom prison, when Johnny is introduced, the guitar player (playing the telecaster) is playing different chords than what is heard.
• Continuity: In the hotel room when June answers the phone in bed, Johnny’s hands caress her lower back. When cut to the reaction shot of June, Johnny’s hands are not yet on her back.
• Anachronisms: When Johnny is fighting with Vivian while he is trying to hang up pictures, he is wearing a Hanes tagless white t-shirt from the late-1990s.
• Continuity: During the scene inside Johnny’s car in the tour caravan, the position of June’s feet changes several times.
• Audio/visual unsynchronized: In one scene where Jerry Lee Lewis plays the piano, you hear the last note after Lewis walks away from the piano.
• Anachronisms: Jerry Lee Lewis, who sings right before Johnny Cash in the first show, wasn’t famous at the time. When Cash plays in Walk the Line for the first time, he’d only had one hit, and was clearly not used to the stage.
• Anachronisms: In one mid-1960s scene, Waylon Jennings has long hair and a beard. At the time, Waylon was clean-shaven, with short, slicked back hair. He adopted the beard and long hair in the mid-1970s “outlaw” era.
• Anachronisms: Heavenly Highway Hymns, which Johnny’s mother gives him early in the movie, was published in 1956.
• Anachronisms: One scene in the 1950s shows Johnny with a “Memphis Business Journal” sign in the background. The Memphis Business Journal was founded in 1979, and the sign appeared on the Memphis skyline much later.
• Continuity: Johnny and June are lying in bed in the hotel room when the phone rings. June picks up the phone with her right hand, and starts to put to her right ear. In the next shot, the phone is in her left hand and at her left ear.
• Anachronisms: In the variety store in Wheeling, W.V. in 1958, June picks up a fat white candle and sniffs it. Candles of that era were almost always tall tapers, unless they were the school-made variety you created by pouring wax into a waxed-paper milk carton, and gave your mama for Christmas. Either way, they were never scented.
• Revealing mistakes: When Johnny goes to the Carter family’s home to visit June, it’s supposed to be fall (pumpkins on the porch), but crepe myrtle trees are blooming along the driveway. Those are usually done by August.
• Audio/visual unsynchronized: In Jerry Lee Lewis’ performance scene, you see him being backed up by a bass player playing a Fender Precision electric bass, but the bass heard on the soundtrack is an acoustic upright bass.
• Errors made by characters (possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): A 1944 scene shows Johnny listening to June Carter on the radio. The announcer says “10-year-old June Carter”. She was 14 or 15 in 1944.
• Factual errors: “I Still Miss Someone” was about June, not Jack. “Walk the Line” was about Johnny’s first wife, Vivian.
• Continuity: When June goes to the theater one morning on the tour to meet the boys, she finds they’ve partied all night and she becomes angry. In the shot of her approaching the stage, only 3 bottles are within reach. When she throws them, she throws 4 bottles.
• Continuity: When the tractor hits the water, it has no engine or smoke stack. The tractor reappears later in the scene.
• Continuity: In June and Johnny’s last concert scene, Johnny is singing. In the shot before June sings, the microphone is above her head. In the next shot of her, the microphone is level with her mouth.
• Continuity: When Vivian prepares to smash June’s picture, she is holding a hammer, which disappears when the picture is smashed.
• Revealing mistakes: After Johnny leaves June’s house after walking from Nashville, it rains later in the scene. Johnny passes out and falls on wet grass and mud. The next morning, when he wakes up near the house he eventually buys, his face and white shirt are clean. They should have been dirty from wet grass, if not muddy.
• Anachronisms: The copy of Kahlil Gibran’s The Prophet that June gives John on one of the first 1950s tours is a 1986 Alfred A. Knopf edition.
• Anachronisms: When Johnny Cash reads fan mail from prisoners (late 1967/early 1968), all of the addresses have two-letter state codes. The Postal Service did not formally adopt two-letter state codes until 1970.
• Factual errors: The “US” collar brass (in-the-circle) seen properly on the collar of the long-sleeve khaki shirt, was not worn on the left side of the overseas cap. Anyone doing so would have been out-of-uniform and subject to disciplinary measures.
• Audio/visual unsynchronized: Before Johnny passes out on stage from overdosing, if you look closely, his mouth never moves when he says “I’m O.K.”; he simply waves his hand.
• Errors in geography: When Johnny Cash is reading letters he received (mostly from inmates), the movie shows one from the Texas State Penitentiary in Austin. The Texas State Penitentiary is in Huntsville, TX.
• Anachronisms: When Sam Phillips tells Johnny about singing “the one song you would sing if it were your last”, a shelf in the background to the right of Sam (slightly out of focus) has vacuum tubes sitting on it. A large box with the ‘National’ (Richardson) logo is in the middle of the stack. That logo wasn’t used until the 1970’s.
• Anachronisms: Some of the plastic tape reels (the clear ones) in Sam’s studio did not exist in that design until the late 70’s/early 80’s.
• Anachronisms: When Johnny is talking with Vivian on the phone from Germany, an apparently US military aircraft is visible through the window. Although most of the markings appear to be correct, the fuselage has an FAA-assigned alpha-numeric N number. US Military aircraft designators are all numeric, and displayed on the vertical stabilizer.
• Anachronisms: The Radio Flyer Tiny Trike on the top shelf in the toy section of the 1958 WV Variety store did not appear until 1981.
• Factual errors: In the movie, Johnny smashes the footlights in Las Vegas. In real life, he smashed the footlights at the Grand Ole Oprey.
• Anachronisms: When Johnny walks back from the Carter house, he is near a railroad crossing. The scene is set in the 1960s, but modern crossing gates are shown. In addition, a signal shanty with a white light on the front is to the right of the crossing. The shanty didn’t exist in the 1960s. The white light, a sign that the power is on, was introduced in the 1990s.
• Factual errors: The real Johnny Cash had a scar on the side of his chin. In the film, Johnny has no chin scar.
• Anachronisms
