“Beverly Hills Cop II” Goofs List
- Continuity: The construction foreman slams his hat on the table, but it is soon back on his head.
- Continuity: Axel and his friends shoot out the same tail light twice.
- Revealing mistakes: During the scene where Axel first visits the gun club, it is daytime. Out the window of the scene in the office where Dent and Cain are discussing killing Foley, you can see past the bushes that it is dark outside, and a daylight balanced light is providing the “sun” beam through the window.
- Continuity: SPOILER: In the scene where Karla Fry sets up Bogomill to be shot, the front license plate number 2CTE919 does not match his rear license plate since the last three digits are different.
- Continuity: When Axel jumps up and grabs on to the cement truck that Rosewood has commandeered, his pistol can be seen falling out of the back of his jeans. He later uses this same weapon.
- Errors made by characters (possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): When in the cement trunk, Foley asks Rosewood if the brakes work on “this thing” Rosewood replies by saying ” I don’t know, I haven’t tried them yet.” When Taggart is chasing after the cement truck, it brakes to make a right turn. So in fact, he has tried them, and they do work.
- Continuity: When Axel, Rosewood, and Taggart walk onto the back patio of the Playboy mansion, the same blonde woman in the black dress walks by the group twice.
- Continuity: During the shoot-out in the oil field, Billy opens/extends the LAW (Light Anti-Tank Weapon) twice.
- Miscellaneous: When Axel and Rosewood are in pursuit of the armored vehicle and come to a stop at a traffic jam, the street lights can be seen to carry on moving on the windscreen.
- Continuity: The passenger in the armored vehicle appears and disappears during the chase.
- Continuity: At the Playboy mansion, Foley parks his car and immediately hops out, and already there is a car directly behind his.
- Continuity: The sunglasses on the guard that Axel punches at the warehouse.
- Factual errors: Using Super Glue fumes to develop fingerprints creates a white fingerprint, not a black one.
- Continuity: The Camaro sitting in front of the Gun Club is an ‘82 or newer Z28. The Camaro at the Club during the shootout is an older model Z28 (circa 1978).
- Factual errors: At one point Murphy fires his pistol with the slide locked back, which is impossible.
- Continuity: When Axel and friends are shot at from a Camaro when they come out of the nightclub, the shooters drive two different types of Camaros in different scenes.
- Continuity: The front license plate of Bogomil’s car is seen when he pulls out of the station. After he is shot, his back license plate can be seen and it is a different number from the front plate.
- Continuity: In the final gun fight, Taggart is firing a shotgun in some shots and a pistol in others (without having time to swap).
- Continuity: When Foley cracks the code of Charles Cain in the car, they do a left turn and the light on the roof of the car falls and is hanging by the cable. In the next shot it is back on the roof. Also, during the sharp left turn that makes the light come off the roof, Foley can be seen riding in the passenger seat. In the next shot he’s sitting in the back seat.
- Continuity: When Foley decides to turn around to check out the house, there are cars visible behind him. When he makes his U turn, there are no cars on the road.
- Audio/visual unsynchronized: At the gun club, when Axel is offering his grooming services to Karla Fry, she is shown firing a revolver. But the sound effects of ejected shells hitting the floor after each shot can be heard. Revolvers don’t eject their shells.
- Continuity: During the opening credits, Axel Foley begins driving a Ferrari 328GTS with the targa top removed. When he pulls into the alley, the car is a Ferrari 308GTS with the targa top in place. The car remains a 308 in all of the high-performance shots on the streets of Detroit. When he pulls up to the bar where he offers to buy 2000 American Express cards, the car is again a Ferrari 328GTS, except the targa top is now in place.
- Continuity: After Sidney Bernstein gives Axel two $100 bills, five $20 bills appear in his hand.
- Continuity: Taggert’s sunglasses disappear just before he falls into the pool.
- Continuity: Evidence from the first Alphabet Bandit holdup (the jewelry store) includes a bag of .308 casings allegedly cut to fit the .44 Auto Mag. No one at the hold up is actually using a .44 Auto Mag
- Continuity: During the shootout at 385 North, the tail lights of the Camaro are shot out several times, and both tail light’s red crystals are broken. In the following cut, the red crystal is seen being shot out again.
- Continuity: Rosewood leaves one shotgun in truck in final shootout scene. One minute later he has both guns in his hands again.
- Continuity: During the gun fight at the end, Axel is shooting his empty gun (the slide is locked back).
- Continuity: The license plates on the limousine in the opening sequence switch back and forth from normal California plates, to “US Olympics” plates between shots.
- Factual errors: When Foley is in Rosewood’s apartment and calls back to Detroit to get Jeffrey to cover for him, he only dials seven digits, when it would take 10 digits to call out of area code.
- Boom mic visible: In the oil field at the end of the movie, Axel is bent down on the side of the black limo. As he picks up the dirt you can see the reflection of a boom mic in the bottom half of the limo
- Continuity: Axel picks up Bogomil’s left shoe, but holds the right.
- Continuity: When Rosewood pulls up to the racetrack, both doors on the right side of the car are open. However, in the next shot, we see Taggart exit out of the vehicle from the left side and the door on the right side is now closed.
- Continuity: When Axel takes in the supposed bag with dangerous projectiles, just before he leaves you see the bag in his hand, when the angle changes he then picks it up.
- Continuity: The box of matches that Charles Cain gives the hitman when he orders him to kill Axel is different from the one Axel recovers from the wrecked car (it’s not box-shaped)
- Continuity: When the detectives open the envelope containing the first letter in the police station, the paper is straight. In the next shot it’s ragged.
- Continuity: Billy beats up his unmarked squad car pretty badly on the way to the depository. After the debrief in the squad room, they are driving the same car which is now undamaged.
- Continuity: When the Cadillac backs up in the driveway to let the armored van pass, it clearly drives off afterward at speed. In the next shot, when Billy hits it with the cement truck, the Cadillac is now stopped side-on in the middle of the road.
- Revealing mistakes: While en route to the City Depository, at the construction area, Billy spins the car around and we hear a crash, and Taggart shouting, “Shit!”, and then they all jump out of the car as it is totaled. Yet the car does not actually hit anything.
- Continuity: The address of the City Deposit on the computer screen is 9752 Gregory. But in the car, Taggart says it’s at 341 Gregory.
- Continuity: There is a car behind Axel right before he pulls into a driveway to turn around and go speak to the building inspector at the house that is being redone. However, when he pulls into the driveway to turn around, the car behind Axel is gone.
- Continuity: During the jewelry store robbery at the beginning of the film, Karla Fry can be seen putting her stop watch in her pocket three times.
- Continuity: Just before Bogomil is shot, the hood of the Mercedes is still open. When the first shot is fired, the hood is closed.
- Continuity: When we first see Karla Fry following Bogomil early in the film her Mercedes convertible has a blue on white California ‘Sunrise’ license plate. In the next shot when she is pulled off to the curve with the cars hood open the plates have changed to the old yellow on blue California type.
- Continuity: Axel shoots a hole through three video screens at the shooting range, but those holes have disappeared in future shots.
- Plot holes: The Captain gets chewed out by the Police Chief for involving the FBI in solving “The Alphabet Crimes.” But the Diamond Store robbery is the “A” crime; i.e. the first and only Crime. How does anyone know (at this point in the movie) that there are going to be further “Alph
