“88 Minutes” Goofs List

  • Continuity: SPOILER: When killer attaches the carabiner to the rope around Joanie Cates’ leg, she is wearing pajama bottoms. She wasn’t wearing pajamas; her sister Janie was.
  • Revealing mistakes: SPOILER: When Dr. Gramm’s Porsche explodes, it is clearly a mock-up. The bottom of the car has an obviously fake exhaust system.
  • Continuity: SPOILER: Leelee wears heavy eye makeup before her death scene, but not after.
  • Continuity: SPOILER: When the dean is hanging, her tormentor releases the rope, she drops slightly, and he reels her back up effortlessly. Yet two FBI guys struggle when they attempt the same task together.
  • Continuity: SPOILER: When Jack discovers Sara’s body, the position of the rope around her body changes in each shot.
  • Continuity: SPOILER: When Jack is on the way to the seventh floor to meet his killer, he presses the button for the elevator on the fourth floor. It’s too slow, so he goes to the stairwell. He enters the stairwell on the fifth floor.
  • Continuity: When Jack leaves the underground parking garage, his Porsche has 15-spoke rims. When he arrives at the university, his car has 5-spoke rims.
  • Continuity: During the live interview with Forster, the time jumps from 11:09 PT to 11:06 PT.
  • Errors in geography: Early in the movie, a Shoppers Drug Mart is clearly visible. Shoppers Drug Mart is a Canadian chain, with stores in Vancouver, where the movie was filmed, but not Seattle, where the movie is set.
  • Errors in geography: When Jack Gramm gets into the taxi at the beginning of the film, an orange “24 Hours” newsstand is visible in the background. 24 Hours is a newspaper published only in major Canadian cities, including Vancouver, where the film was shot.
  • Errors made by characters (possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): In the MSNBC interview, Jon Forrester’s name is spelled John.
  • Crew or equipment visible: When Jack Gramm stops the motorbike in the parking lot, a crew member is visible in the background, wearing combat-patterned trousers and a black T-shirt.
  • Continuity: After Jack receives his first phone call while giving his lecture, he places his cell phone screen down. The next time it rings, the phone is screen-up.
  • Continuity: About 45 minutes in to the film, Jack answers a cellphone left hand. In the next shot, it’s in his right hand, then back to his left.
  • Continuity: Jack’s hair goes from long to short and back several times.
  • Errors in geography: Roots stores appear twice: behind Jack and Kim when they go out on the street to get the Porsche, and behind a character walking down the street. Roots is a Canadian chain, with no stores in Seattle. The only US stores are in Beverly Hills CA, Aspen CO, Birmingham MI, and Park City UT.
  • Audio/visual unsynchronized: After the warning about “88 minutes” is called in, a man passes by on a bicycle. The sound you hear is a bike coasting, not a man cycling.
  • Errors in geography: At least one shot shows a green “Metro” box. Metro is a free newspaper distributed in 7 major Canadian cities, including Vancouver, where the film was shot. In the US, Metro is distributed in New York, Boston, and Philadelphia, not Seattle, where the film is set.
  • Factual errors: When Jack finds out the Mariners score, he has 76 minutes left, meaning the time is around 10:30 am. The Seattle score is on the bottom, which means they are playing at home. MLB games never start before noon.
  • Continuity: After he commandeers the taxi, he pulls up to a curb right next to a telephone pole. When they exit the car moments later, the pole is missing.
  • Continuity: The last time Graham goes to his office, his office number is 316. Five minutes later, as he places a call from the elevator, the elevator’s floor indicator goes from 4 to 3.
  • Errors in geography: After Graham leaves the Campus Security Office, he passes by a University of Northwest Washington campus map on the wall. If you look closely, it is actually a University of Washington Seattle campus map. The film was shot on the University of British Columbia campus.
  • Continuity: A detective confronts Jack in front of a theater. In the close up, they are in front of some posters. In wider shots, they are nowhere near the posters.
  • Continuity: At the beginning of the movie, when Al Pacino’s character gets into the taxi, he tells cab driver to take him to 114 Western. When he arrives at the destination, the address on the front of the building is 1001.
  • Continuity: When Gramm takes the cab from the cab driver for the first time, it is raining. When they arrive at their first destination, it is clear with no trace of rain.
  • Continuity: When Jack reaches the 7th floor of the Stearns Bldg, he racks the slide on his pistol. But he had just fired a warning shot past the student’s head a few minutes earlier, there was no need to cock the pistol. And when he does cock it, the slide locks back, indicating the pistol is now out of ammunition.
  • Factual errors: The police detective tells Jack that DNA tests show his semen was found in the murder victim’s body. DNA tests cannot be done in just hours even assuming they have Jack’s DNA on file.
  • Continuity: When Jack is running to the Stern building, he runs across a wet courtyard covered in leaves. Then from a camera angle above the courtyard, there are no leaves, and the pavement is dry.
  • Continuity: In the scene where Jack synchronizes his watch with Agent Frank Parks, a closeup of Jack’s watch shows a round face (it’s clear this is Jack’s watch from the color of the jacket sleeve). However, throughout the rest of the movie, Jack is clearly wearing a watch with a rectangular face.
  • Continuity: When Jack Gramm fires the warning shot at his student in the office, we see a close up of the bullet making a hole in the door. However, in the next cut the door is opened and we see both sides of it. There isn’t any hole in it.
  • Continuity: The position of the cookies Jack places on the table in the boardroom changes from being on his folders to being beside them to right in front of the nearest phone in 3 consecutive shots.
  • Continuity: When Jack goes to his appointment, the guard’s mustache has a gap in the middle. When they cut back to him, the gap has gone.
  • Continuity: The rims on Jack’s car change throughout the movie.
